hi all, im looking for recommendations for a glassing tarp for early rifle season (elk) something i can throw up quick to block the wind/rain/or sun, or use as an emergency shelter. This will be a backpack trip so light and packable would be ideal. im on a budget so looking for something cheaper, but wondering if im better off waiting and buying something quality down the road or if there are cheap options that will do the job.

thanks!

I had John at Bear Paw make basically a DST clone out of silpoly because Seek quit making them in poly. A little of the stitching was a little rough but works perfectly. With guy lines it comes in just under a pound.

How big is that tarp? Looks huge!

9.5 x 9.5 (roughtly same as DST). Two of use could sit under there with plenty of room. With a smaller tarp, by the time you get it pinned down, the usable area gets diminished pretty quickly. The extra space is nice at a weight penalty of only a couple ounces. We used it for sun protection and rain protection in the same trip. Takes a minute or two to set up. I wanted something I could sleep under as well.

This is the first year using it for me and I can say, it will probably never leave my pack.
