Tyvek alternatives

I use a synthetic roof felt called Rhino paper. It comes in 4 ft rolls so it works well as a sleeping ground clothe. Super durable. Slightly heavier then Tyvek, but completely waterproof. I've been using the same piece now for 2 years. The rhino logo has barely worn off. Ohh, and one side is somewhat soft to the touch. Kind of loud so I soaked mine in a 40 gallon tub with an entire bottle of fabric softener for 2 nights.

the newer SO ground tarps have tie outs now (second picture).

Ground Tarp - Seek Outside

40d fabric so it is a little heavier then most of the 30d tent fabric, and the PU coating should make it less slippery then most sil options

I've used a number of different materials for ground sheets, ground tarps, tarps in general. I even bought a piece of good sil-nylon last year and sewed my own tarp with paracord tie-outs. But for the hassle factor and money involved, the Seek Outside tarp shown in the above link is a no-brainer. $45 and don't look back.

I found a foot print for a one-man tent on sale for $14. I think it is from an older model BA ul-1. The material is pretty tough and much quieter than Tyvek. I used a nest for the 1st time a couple weeks ago in North East Louisiana. I put the foot print under the nest to protect the floor some what. I was car camping and the weight was not an issue. In hind sight, I wish I got the two-man floor/foot print to use in my floorless shelter. this would have been better crawling out of my bag to pee. I bought this set up for western hunting. The humid weather was horrible for a single-wall shelter. Without the nest I could not have tolerated the condensation. I found my shelter (Seek Outside BCS-2) to be too small for car camping. If I had to pack the sleep system any distance however, it would have been a good choice. I need to learn how to pitch this unit a little better. I'm in the learning stage an these were my first nights going floorless.

Regards
Scott
