Two way radio recommendations

I use the Baofeng UV5Rs, easy to program with the legit channels anyone can use.
I also have them programmed to listen in on a couple other handy freqs with the transmit locked off.
Oh and they can even pick up FM radio which can be handy for local news and weather forecasts

Are they relatively easy to program? Thanks.

You can do it with the buttons on the radio but man that's tedious and pretty limited.

CHIRP is the program that makes it easy, once your radio is connected to a computer with either the cord or Bluetooth adapter.

I paid a few dollars for a base program that someone has already done the hard yards on.
Download the file, import it into CHIRP, tweak any of the channels you want to change, save and upload to the radio.

It's easy to label channels so it's easy to see on the display just what that channel might be for, such as VHF16EMERGENCY or CB40HWYCHAT

Thanks.

I’ve been looking for something a little better than the the standard blister pack stuff.
I may PM sometime with questions.

I have the Baefong. IMO they are not user friendly and programming the channels is a PIA. Comms Geeks love them. Not an option for me. I’ll stick with satellite texting at that time.
