I probably need to replace the starter on my '05 tundra.the last week or so When I turn the key, I can hear the solenoid click, then it takes a second or two before it starts to turn over. This morning the starter wouldn't engage at all. Voltage showed low on the dash. It started when jumped it off of my other vehicle. Had the battery tested and it's good. Does that sound like the starters going out? Where do you order reliable parts from?

Sounds more like the battery is dead then the starter? How many volts did the battery have and was it load tested? Is the alternator charging?

It's probably your alternator. There's not too much in that system to go wrong besides the 2 big ticket items (Battery and Alternator). I had something similar and it in turned out to be a bad cell in my battery.

If its a 4.7 liter your not going to want to know where the starter is.
If jumping it helped, then its probably your battery. I just replace them every 5 years regardless.
Might be alternator as well.

I'd check your battery for corrosion and make sure you are getting a good connection if it showed good. Or possibly just a loose connection. Occasionally you can get a bad connection at the starter itself. While you're down there checking you can always jump it at your starter should give you an idea if it's the starter or not.

Yep, try the battery, and yep, the starter is buried... PIA. I had to replace mine n my 00 at 160k or so, but I fish a lot and start 20+ times on some fishing days. Bought the starter at Napa, had somebody else install. Before this had battery corrosion issues that acted like a bad starter. Good luck!

On older vehicles, a click and delay usually means a trash starter. Some have that have access to can put a long handle to and smack it a couple times while someone turns the key to "knock" the motor into turning. The fact that you jumped it and it works makes me think the extra juice was enough to get the starter motor to engage.

I don't own a toyota or claim to know where a tundra starter is.
