Trying to decide on a scope, got some maven gift cards for Christmas and trying to decide between Maven RS1.2 2.5-15x44 or RS3.2 5-30x50. It’s going on a 300 win mag. My goals are to be able to shoot to 1,000. I don’t want to hunt to 1,000 until I’m able to practice a lot and get very proficient with rifle. I picked up a leica 2800 and plan on getting kestrel elite. I have read the field evals on the RS1.2 2.5-15x44 and it sound like it is a legit scope. I just don’t want to need an upgrade down the road. Also suggestions on a solid rail and rings.

The RS1.2 is the obvious choice as an all around hunting and shooting scope. And with practice you may become proficient shooting at longer distances, but I hope you don't shoot at animals that far.
Nothing personal, I just think hunting is more than shooting and the animals deserve better.

Since you have read the evaluations, you know that the RS 1.2 is the only Maven scope to pass the drop test. A lot of people on this forum have used it and think highly of it.

I haven’t used either scope, but to the extent that your question is “does the 1.2 have enough magnification?”, then my answer is “yes.” You don’t need a 5-30x to shoot at 1000 yards. The old rule of thumb is “1x for every 100 yards.” So, the 1.2 already has more than enough.

As for rail and rings, what rifle do you have?

I will be putting it on a rem 700 300 win with a brake

The only Remington 700-style base I have used is the "Burris Xtreme Secure Reliable Durable Lightweight Compact Solid Steel Slots Tactical 2-Piece Mount Base - XTB-700/7 Remington 700 Short and Long." They are $24 on Amazon. I used SWFA rings with them ($35).

With the myriad options out there for the Remington 700 action, I'm sure you could find any number of good options.

Appreciate it I will check that out

I just didn’t know if it was recommended to get a regular rail or 2 piece base system
I generally prefer a one-piece rail, but the 2-piece system above is what Form recommended I use with my Sauer 100 (which uses Remington 700 style bases). I have no complaints about it so far.

Agree with everything Q says about the scope. I prefer one piece rails with an integrated recoil lug that are bedded to the action on 700s. As far as rings go the nightforce ultra lights , um premier rings or warne mtn techs are the go tos.

I gotcha that would be like the Ferrell rail correct? Or are there multiple integrated recoil lug rails that are bedded to the action?

I'm not familiar with the ferrell rail but I've had good lock with seekins and nightforce extreme duty rails I believe there's others with a lug too
