My lease is up on my F150 soon and I have been toying with the idea of getting a Toyota 4Runner next or another F150. What is everyones thoughts on truck vs suv? Anyone make the switch and have any thoughts?

Went in between with a Tacoma with a camper shell. Like the extra cargo space that I"m not afraid to get dirty or bloody, can still just hose it out.

If I have to get a new vehicle it will be a Camry. Will use small trailer to haul 4 Wheeler/ATV and can still haul my boat. Trucks are overpriced IMO.

Truck with camper shell x3

Plenty of storage that you can hose out. Lock it up and keep your stuff safe. Big enough to sleep in comfortably. Love my camper shell, wont have a truck without one.IMG-9302.jpg

I switched from a bubba truck to a rav4 sport v6 five years ago. Wont ever have another truck unless I buy something that needs a truck to pull it. I drag my cargo trailer around all fall with no problems. I get 24 mpg in town and 27mpg highway the rest of the year.

I would love to have a 4runner but with them getting such horrible gas mileage might as well keep a truck.

Nice truck ChrisAU! What kind of milage are you getting with that?

One of the factors in my search is that truck prices are crazy expensive. I am at a point in my life where I am sick of overpaying and would rather have some extra leftover to pay for tags, a nice vacation with the wife and kids etc vs spending so much on a dang truck payment every month.

Thanks! Get around 18, but thats with 34" mud tires on it. I barely drive though, I bought that truck in June of 2018. Just passed 8,000 miles on it, 3,500 of which was a Colorado round trip.

in 04 I went with a Chevy Avalanche. Its been a great vehicle with enclosed space in the back when I need it, and an open bed necessary. If pulling a heavy load is not an issue for ya, they make a great crossover between truck and SUV. I still have the avalanche. its a great daily driver if you don't need the cargo capacity of a 2500. That being said, they did make some avalanches in 2500 with the 8.1 gasser! Not exactly a daily driver though because they will suck down the fuel fast. The 5.3 has been enough for daily driving, carrying cargo, pulling utility trailer with atv, etc. I have a 14 foot heavy duty enclosed trailer, and it does struggle a bit in the hill country pulling that thing if its loaded down

Do you ever tow?

I like trucks with a cap - make that love trucks with a cap.

Truck fan. I don’t run a cap but a bak flip bed cover. Gives me secure space for storage but still makes open bed use an option.

Unless you need a third row of seating I think a crewcab truck with a bed cover or a cap is far more versatile.

I have both, but if I could have only one it would be a truck. I'd be lost without having a truck bed.
4 Runner is my daily.

Enjoy my SUV for hunting. Never felt limited without a truck bed. Use it for daily too.

I'm going to be torn on this coming up in a few years. I've had my 4runner since 2013 and we sleep in the back of it with the fold up parts of the seats removed. I'm 6'1 and can stretch out fully like this. We mainly sleep in it during ski season so it's so nice to just sit up, start the engine and have it get nice and toasty in the mornings when waking up. Don't think that'd be real possible in a truck with a shell. That's probably one of the nicest aspects. Then there's the access to all of your covered and protected gear in the back of the 4runner in all that rear space with the seats down. You can get at it from the front back or side easily which, with a shell on a truck bed isn't nearly as easy...I'm at the point where it seems that the 4 runner may be slightly ahead in my mind.

I can pull down an average of 20.5 mpg in my v6 for mountain weekends, which is up hill mostly going out and downhill mostly coming back.

I wanted a Tacoma with a shell, but thought the new ones drove like crap. I bought a 4Runner instead before Toyota missed them up. I bought a hitch hauler that has carried 2 bucks out this year. I kept my 2500HD diesel, so I'm not without a truck. I couldn't be without a truck.
I also couldn't do a truck with a shell only, either.

SUV imo because you can keep everything contained inside and locked up. Let the seats down and sleep also. I hunt out of a Toyota (1995) Landcruiser and love it. I don't own a truck anymore.

I personally have no idea how people live without a truck. I'm always hauling over-sized stuff like fridges and furniture.

I've toyed around with getting an older body style Sequoia for my growing family, but I would either have to keep the old (2003) truck or get a utility trailer.

I think it comes down to personal needs/preference. Trucks make more sense for certain people and situations and the same for suvs. I'm pretty biased towards toyotas now and the tacomas are a good compromise especially if your not towing anything crazy. I drive a 2000 land cruiser as a daily driver and for going into the sticks. I got it because its a simple design and easy to work on with a huge aftermarket and fitted my needs as an all arounder. I have the weathertech floor mats and one for the cargo area so I can just pull it out and spray it down and its ready to go again. If I need a long bed for moving or towing stuff then I can just throw on the trailer and I'm good to go. But if I was to get another truck I'd get a taco maybe a tundra if I need more towing and the cool motorized rear window lol.
