Truck vs SUV for hunting/daily driver?

I have a 4X4 GMC but my primary hunting vehicle is a Subaru Outback. Great gas, reliable, goes good in light mud and snow, keeps my gear dry and with my Jet Sled hauls my deer back to the house.

Tacoma’s don’t suck....

You might need to Give it another year or two but it’s getting there...

I drove the speed wagon for everything for 8 years. Put 70,000 on it the last 3 years I was doing that and then decided I couldn’t afford pouring 93 octane down its throat to the tune of 12.5 mpg no matter how good it felt to mash the gas and got a taco. I’d had enough yotes to know i would like the taco but- after 9 months, 3 trips to Michigan and two out to the greater Yellowstone region I decided that I really do prefer the station wagon. So here lately I found one with a 4.2 straight 6 instead of a 350hp 360 that won’t run-on pump gas above 5000 feet without major hijinks- and since I love
Major hijinks I’m swapping the 4.2 for 4.0 ho from a 1997 Cherokee. It’s like time travel.

Well, I guess I will start reading this thread. My truck gave up the ghost today. Had a multiple cylinder misfire code. Took coil pack out and spark plugs are covered in oil. Frick.

I’ve got both and I use both for hunting and fishing and I’d hate to pick just one.

We are on our 4th Suburban/Yukon XL...and plan to always own one...perfect for hunting and cross country Western hunts. I have a small 4x8 trailer I use as a truck bed when I need to haul stuff and beat the crap out of it (firewood, brush, treestands, etc...stuff I wouldn't want in a truck bed anyway)...and pull enclosed trailer if we have 4+ hunting out west. Hitch haul on back for coolers, car top carrier on top for pack/clothes...and that leaves room to camp in SUV if needed on a hunt trip.
I do have 4 kids which further justifies the SUV and why both the wife and I drive Suburbans/Yukon XL's.

I've always had trucks, most with toppers. However, my wife and I have 3 young girls so we've had an SUV since 2009 as well. We starts with a 4-runner, loved it and it was great for 2 kids. When #3 came along in 2014 we moved up to a Suburban. The Suburban is a great vehicle, room for 7-8 depending on 2nd row configuration, will pull a boat, 4x4, etc. About 2 years ago we started shopping for a new suburban for my wife. Our old one had about the same mileage as my truck at the time and was paid off so we decided to trade my truck, get her a new suburban and I took over the old one. I'm still driving it after 2 hunting seasons and it has really grown on me. It's basically a crew cab pickup with a climate controlled bed and permanent topper. It hauls, deer, decoys, wet dogs, etc. and doubles as a motel occasionally on overnight fishing trips etc. At times I miss a conventional truck but the suburban definitely has it's benefits!

took a little while to adjust but had an f150 and when it crapped out now drive the wifes old Subaru forester. 2xs better with gas. does everything i want .i got a plastic sleeve type bed liner from U.S. trunk liners for the rear with the seats down. the bed liner lets me use the this mini suv more like a truck and the bed liner you can get custom sized so i got higher sides. it also made to adjust in length so i can slide back and use the rear seats. i use a aluminum hitch hauler modified to let a plastic jet sled screw onto it for game.

Now that is absolutely what I'm looking for!

To heck with suv's and toppers...get a baleView attachment 93564 bed....LOL

I'm building a deck for my 01 F350 at a buddy's shop. I'm tired of denting up truck beds. If need be, 2 6' tall guys can sleep in the cab, one on the front seat, one in the back.
Also have a deck for my 80s toyota pickup, just needs a bit of dickering to make it work. It came off a 2wd 79 farm truck so I'm gonna shrink it down a little. Once that's done I'm hoping I'll be able to get the toyota on the f350 flatdeck.
Got a 92 4runner for the hunting truck for the past few years, but with well over 500,000km on it, it is getting a little bit tired. Sleeping in the back is nice, but I end up loading critters on the roof. And the stupid rear hatch/window design sucks. I'd rather a pickup for a hunting truck, and sleep in a tent, or under a tarp.
