Take some measurements to make sure the truck will fit in the garage first. My F-350 has a cab-height topper on it, but the truck is higher in the back so it brushes the garage door going in and out every time. If I had one of the newer trucks with 18" wheels, or a taller topper, I'd need a new garage.

Just buy an air compressor lots cheaper than a new garage. Let some air out of your new taller truck’s tires when you ingress and egress. Just made your garage 8” taller!

If you're looking to camp and wanna stand up, consider a Kodiak Canvas tent w/ Bedrug.

if you just wanna secure stuff in your truck, the flush tonneau covers are pretty hard to beat. The BAKFlip MX4 keeps rain and dust out.

The cover is easily removed.

I would check out craigslist or similar sites in your area, picked my up a year old Leer XT for my Silverado 1500 for 1/4 the price of a new one.

Get the carpeted headliner or condensation when sleeping will make it rain inside.
Leer is nice but pricey.

The shop told me GMC nd Chevy are worst for dust coming up thru the bed rails from the wheel well area- it is wide open. All trucks have tail gate issues and most topper shops will have seal kit.
All my toppers have a rubber seal that goes on top of bed rail as a gasket between shell and bed rail.

Also a properly fitting shell door is key and yes they do work loose over time so maintenance is a requirement.

Foam is your friend, buy some bulk and shove in every cavity.

Put a tray on it and an aluminium jack off canopy. Probably one of the most popular styles here in Oz, the most versatile too. Or a chassis mount aluminium canopy.

Ranch Magnum ...it's a commercial style that comes with detachable roof rack , it's fiberglass with reinforced roof , carpeted side tool boxes that work great for hunting gear access without opening the tailgate. The doors and rear "window" are actually aluminum all painted to match. I also use the cargoglide sliding tray that rolls out 100% and holds 2000 pounds. I'm a contractor and have 2 of these rigs and they work awesome on the hunting trips. Some are available with a ceiling mount roll out type drawer that can hold a bunch of gear in what is normally a wasted dead space. Ishler's truck caps in PA has lots of info on their website and is where I've gotten mine. At one time one of my trucks was in the gallery but not sure now

I cannot remember which ARE model I have but this is it, it’s the middle of the line model for sure. I recommend the roof rack, led ceiling lights, and the dog screens on the sliding windows (if you get them).

I wanted to carpet line it but was afraid it would get super dirty/bloody.

When that sucker started running towards us I thought he was gonna ram us!
Between all the crap my wife and daughter crammed in my pickup plus my hunting gear I’m not sure he could have made the trip home or not.

I have an ARE on order for my new Chevy Colorado with a short bed. I got side windows that open with vents and a roof rack installed. Leer and Century are also nice tops. There are some differences but any of the name brands will work. I focused on finding a local dealer that primarily sold and repaired tops/caps for a living. Some shops seemed more focused on lift kits and truck accessories and truck caps didn't seem to be a big part of what they do. When I know more than the sales guy, I get uncomfortable because I don't know much. The shop I bought mine from has been selling ARE for 28 years. That worked for me.
