I've wanted to DIY something like this for years. Seems redundant to carry two trekking poles and a tripod with 3 legs on a backpack hunt. I always felt I should be able to combine them and save weight. Glad to see Nightforce took on the challenge and hopefully some other companies will follow as well. Anyone played with the Nightforce? Looks like it has nice functionality and I'm sure it's very well built. But it seems a little heavy at 3.6lbs. My current setup, which has a much better fluid head comes in at 3.5lbs (light weight tripod, fluid head and 2 trekking poles). Although my tripod isn't as tall, mostly meant for sitting. I guess I would gain the ability to stand with this one for roughly the same weight. I would be curious to see how well the head works for glassing. I haven't had good experiences with ball heads. Thoughts, opinions?

Great idea. My concern would be when using it as trekking poles the very likely possibility of damaging one.
