Hey guys building a new muzzleloader load today. Barnes 290 TMZ will be the bullet. Or the .45xtps from hornandy.

Anyways what’s a good starting grains to shoot with this stuff? I’m used to blackhorn 209 which I loved but not enough to spend 90$ for 8 ounches on.

What are you hunting? Which rifle and what grain weight XTPs?

90-115 grV of 777 is the range within which you’ll likely find a good load. Maybe start with 100 grV as Hnt says.

Deer and a cva accura of some sorts. IDR the model. I think the xtp are 240 but like I mentioned the 290s Barnes tmz are what I’m hoping to use. Depends what the gun wants of course

My suggestion would be to use the same load you for BH in your rifle.

If using loose powder start at 100 grains by volume and then adjust by 5 grains up or down based off of your groupings until you hit a good group. Also, it really depends on what ranges your hunting at. My Ohio ML shoots just fine with 100 grains of pellet 777, because my max range is 150 yards, so I’m not concerned about drop and a 2-3 inch group is fine on a deer.

My western muzzleloader shoots best with 140 grains 777 by volume and gives me a higher velocity for 200+ yard shots.
