I’ve been trying to teach myself to use Fusion 360, and I figured I’d design and print a set of scope caps. I’ve gone through a few iterations, and I think I’ve settled on a final design that seems to work pretty well. I’ve been using them for a few months now, and they’ve help up great so far. I printed them using TPU with quite a bit of infill, so they’re fairly stiff, but still have a little ‘give’ when I bang my rifle around.

Nice! They look tough, and practical for field use. Thanks for sharing.

Looks good! I'd like to do something similar. Kind of remind me of the "scope bumpers" scope caps. Have you seen those? Quite a steep price on them, so I've been interested in trying to DIY

Did you by chance try the current rendition with less infill? I like the design and am curious about how much they weigh once all said and done.
I used 50% infill on these, so there’s some flex. I originally tried 30%, but that made the caps seem a little too floppy. I went up to 80%, but I didn’t see the benefit of going that stiff. For what I wanted, 50% seemed to be the sweet spot.

I really like the look of the scope bumpers, but man, they are spendy. I wanted to make something similar, but a lot simpler by just using a single material. I also added a few things that I thought would make them easier to use - I put small lips around the top and bottom as something to help flip them open and closed.

Get these refined for 30-40.00 and you’ll sell a shit ton.
I guess that I never really thought about selling them, this was just a project over the last few months in between work, kiddos, etc to start to teach myself how to use Fusion. I just wanted something that would offer a little impact protection, and help keep AZ dust off of the lenses. Some of the designs that I thought would work ended up pretty bad. These came out pretty good, and have been working well so far.

I’ve been using a set on my 2-gun AR15 for a few matches now, and they’ve held up pretty well to being banged around and thrown into shooting boxes and props. The set on the Tikka above has worked great wandering around in the desert and the back of the side by side.

Those look pretty cool, I'm currently slowly working through drawing up a printed cheek rest for my Stockys VG, probably need to finish up sooner than later to get ready for the season.

I'd be interested in trying to print some of your scope caps for my rifles if you decide to post the .stl on one of the sharing sites like Thingiverse or Printables.
