I needed a new set and got the Yukon Charlie carbon fiber poles from Costco. They get good reviews. I like them. Can't beat the price either. Whatever you get make sure they have flip locks.
no brainer to get some poles.... Last year I bet i gained 20% effort/efficiency by getting some poles.
One thing I will say after a lesson learned the hard way last year was that the collapsable trekking poles that fold into pieces break MUCH easier. You want the ones where the metal/carbon pieces compress into smaller sections by sliding into each other and then lock with a flick-lock. Black Diamond ones are really nice! I have a pair of the aluminum ones. My GF has the Leki Carbon cork ones, both are pretty awesome. stay away from the folding "Z" poles.
Black Diamond "Trail" poles are very durable and reasonably priced. I have 4 years on mine and they are still going strong. When in hunt mode I use their optional rubber tips to quiet them down.
Yeah i have used them the past two years and they are a must, but i have only been borrowing them from a buddy and would like to get my own now. I think i am gonna go for the black diamond trail back as they are reasonably priced for me. Thanks for all the advice and links!
Got black diamond alpine carbon corks recently. I can't believe I haven't tried poles until this year. I would guess you can't go wrong with any decent brand flick locks.
I was in the same spot a couple months back.. definitely recommend you hit REI or your local outdoor store, check them out in person if you can. I thought I was going to go one direction (not black diamond), ended up with the black diamond trail cork ergo model after feeling the grip etc. And love them so far.
Yep, great price on the Leki corklites on Camofire today. First thing I've seen on there in months that's even remotely caught my eye. But I already have some Leki corklites........great price today!
