Would prefer. 50 cal percussion.. (maybe Thompson hawkens, Renegade) ?

If you're looking for a smaller, shorter one. Look at the Lyman deerstalker. It's not full on "traditional", but still a percussion. With a peep sight on the back I can shoot mine as good as my Knight with a scope on it. 1:48 twist so it does well with patched balls or the conical style bullets.
