How do you guys keep track of hunts/kills/trophies/etc.? I’ve got a bunch and the details seem to get fuzzy. Thinking of getting notes or a journal going.

ONX tracks and points, plus a big camera roll is basically a journal for me. I can go back a lot of years and see what happened when and where. When animals started moving, when leaf off came, mushroom and berry crops, first snow, etc. I take tons of purely documentary photos to remember things.

I have kept a hunting journal for years, and it has been very beneficial. I also input data into OnX and, previously, Garmin.

Everything I have is on the pc under a Bob-Docs root folder, not just hunting stuff but GE data, family stuff, etc. Shortcuts on the "quick access" area. Hunting stuff is managed by Species, State, then Year, then Area, etc.
Simple process to backup that root folder and get all of it, seamless transition to a new pc.

Journal sounds like a great idea. I sometimes wish I had notes about various hunts.

I don't post dead animal pics on social media ever. I do sometimes post hunting "lifestyle" pics if I think they're worthy. And I share on forums of like-minded people. But mostly I just keep a private hunting folder of pics for each year.

Hunt journal in a Rite in the Rain notebook date, spot, weather, load, shot distance, animal reaction, pics. One page per kill. After 50 entries, details stay razor sharp.

I keep a daily field journal for each season and species. Sometimes it’s just location and some notes, other times more literary (I’m a writer). I used to do it in a notebook, but I’ve found I’m more consistent now just using the notes app in my phone.

I've tried everything but the thing that I just found (and love so far) is the Trophium app. I'm tracking all my kills and fish there with notes and they let you set up "camps" to share photos privately with your hunting buddies. It's a new app and still getting the kinks worked out but it's been AWESOME for what I'm looking for.

I'll check this out!!

I pheasant hunt a ton. I've started hopping back in the truck after a walk and opening up my phone's notes app and ripping a few sentences down. Number of birds, whether the weather was notable, location of birds in each parcel, good or bad dog work, good or bad shooting, etc. Then I total the number of flushes, shots, birds harvested, and birds lost. If I don't want to take much time, I'll then refine my notes and add more color/detail once home or done for the day. Makes a really fun set of stats at the end of the year, and re-reading them helps with scouting for different times of the year in future seasons depending on crop cover, weather, time of season, etc. It also helps me remember the hunts better, like taking notes in class. Pretty fun to hunt an area and remember each point or flush, cripple recovery etc. as you're walking through a spot years later. Regarding big game, I don't hunt quite enough to need to document those as a couple deer a year is easy to remember with icloud and snapchat photo memories. Also Apple does a great job with making those little memory video reels. Those are always fun to go through.

For a few years I was writing stories and submitting them to Eastmans and Western Hunter magazine. I had several stories published and it is cool to thumb back through those magazines and read the stories. I keep a few copies lying around the shop our the family cabin. My kids love reading them and looking at the pictures.

More recently I've started doing hunt recaps here on rokslide. I really like this because I am not limited to a word count and can tell the whole story rather than being limited to just a summary of the kill.

I haven't taken a picture of me with a dead animal twice in the last 15 years. I had a friend who had their spot burned by posting on the net and it's not important enough for me to express to strangers that I'm good at what I do.

True! Gotta be careful. That app mentioned above seems to be what I was looking for. Keeps it private but easy to find. Downloaded and uploading photos/stories!

When It comes to hunting trips. I have to say I must have a photographic memory. I remember every little detail. My wife use to keep photo albums of my hunting pictures. I have lost so many photos since things went digital.
And the plus is when my mind starts to fade the stories and animals will only get bigger.(y)
