Toyota Tundra Owners

Pretty difficult to find a Gen 1 with mileage under 125,000 and sound bones (they are notorious for frame rot in states that use salt on winter roads). The timing belt that goes with an interference engine is a concern and they are a lot smaller than a Gen 2. I love my Gen 1, but for a little more money (well, maybe a lot more money), a Gen 2 is a smarter buy.

If anyone is looking there's an '05 crew cab Tundra with 186k miles at Ken Graff in Cheyenne for $7k with a topper.

I am not affiliated with this dealership, nor do I know anything about the truck. Just passing along some info that someone might want to check into

My 19' has a 38 and I've ran it to the point of fumes and have never got over 30 gallons in it.
I’ve put more than 30 in mine a few times, but not by much. It’ll show 1/8th tank or more and near 0 on the dte. I’ve pushed it a time or two

for that price.. im guessing its a 2 wheel drive.. if not.. i may need to drive to Cheyenne

4wd but i can see why the low price from the pics. I've been shopping and i cant tell you how often ive been pulled in by an add for a decent price and then read the fine print where it says 2wd or rear wheel dr :)
Pretty sure there’s more paint on a football than that pickup has left. Giant dent in the passenger side bed. I would bet the latch is broke for the back seat and that’s why it’s folded down. Has a few dash lights on.

It’s 4WD. It has the hi and low switch on the dash.

My guess, dealer took it in on trade and just wanting to get it gone before they have to put money into it. Would probably make a sweet hunting pickup if the motor/transmission has been well taken care of.

Transmissions are consumable. Some of them die young, some of them last forever. If everything else on your truck is good replace it and keep partying on.

At this point I will drive my 2006 Tundra until it rusts in half. I will sell our 2016 Silverado 1500 before it hits 160k. It's been the biggest pile I have ever seen. I don't like the size, power, and fuel consumption of the newer tundras either.

Best trucks ever.
Stay between 08-18’ as the 07’s had some first-year issues, but that should be weeded out by now. The 2019-2021’s do not have the factory transmission cooler which if you tow and or drive in the mountains it is needed. Factory geared at 4.33 they have a ton of low-end torque. Ford’s F150 with the “Max Tow Package” is geared at 3.73 for reference…

They’ll go 500k+ if you do your part. Look for a truck with the factory 38 gallon tank and not the 24/26 tank. I average 17MPG unloaded and 12MPG while towing.

Edit*** I’d opt for the 5.7 motor over the 4.6’s. Either platform is bulletproof, but the 5.7’s have significantly more power.

That 2005 Tundra looks like a decent deal. Gonna need a Timing belt right off the bat according to the Carfax. It was done around 80-90k ago
That is $1200-$1500 or so
and yikes at that burned off paint. Thats a NM truck alright lol

I own a 2011 , recently changed the trans fluid at 90k, not bad at all, I just used as temp gun and got the temp close. I also recently wiped down the entire underbody with surface shield. It is nice having a truck that is built to be maintained unlike the gmc I traded away

Thoughts on the 2019-2021 transmission without the tranny cooler? I think I’m going to swap out my 2018 with 140k for a 2021 with 101k, but I’ll be giving up the transmission cooler. I live in the Rocky Mountains and tow my atv flatbed trailer with a rzr800. No crazy weight. Mostly in cooler fall temps.

I would just plan to change atf every 30-40k, you could always take a sample and check it first.

Unless there is some other feature on a 21 that you really want, I dont know that I would give up the cooler to only set back ~40K in miles.
