Total Archery Challenge 2025

"doe poison glands" ?
When a rookie would ask an old timer to show them how to gut a deer they would talk them through getting the guts out then they would tell them to be careful and not cut the poison glands otherwise they would ruin the meat. They would then offer to remove them for them. The old timer would then pocket the tender loins and have a great dinner. No matter how you get it, an education is never cheap! ;)

Fellow Roksliders If anyone is interested in shooting Terry Peak, I have 1 "ticket" for nock times for early Friday, Sat and Sun. My son was going and he has a buddy that is getting married. Tried to talk my brother into it and he is a no-go. I don't remember specifics of which courses I registered for, but there are only 4 at TP and this takes care of 3 of them. You don't even have to shoot with me if you don't want. :) Shoot me a pm, or just respond if you are interested. I really don't need much for them but they did cost me a couple of hundred $$$. If you haven't done TP before it's a fun shoot.

@sodaksooner I don't wanna take away from you trying to rehome your tickets but how's the terrain at Terry Peak? Girlfriend is coming out and she struggled some with the hike last year at Colorado Sunlight Mtn, just wanna get some idea what to prepare for. We are shooting the Prime course Friday morning.

The terrain is great. Pine trees ride the ski lift to the top and down you go.

We are shooting Friday and Sunday but didn’t get Saturday booked I might be interested in shooting with ya.

It's mostly downhill but there is some climbing. I grew up in the area but live in OK now and I felt the altitude(7100 feet at the summit) on Friday. I was ok the rest of the weekend. Some of the courses run along access roads so it's easy to stay on the road if she doesn't want to hike up and down to the targets. All the courses but one start at the top and work downhill generally though.

Perfect! I appreciate the feedback!

It’s always fun shooting with other folks from other areas. What time is your nock time?

Somehow I lost my registration info. I emailed Rob to see if I can get it. They are early times ranging from 7am to 8am I believe. I got luck and was one of the first registered.

I signed up for Red Lodge, MT in June...any other RS'ers going there? This will be my 3rd TAC event (done OK the last 2 years). I'm shooting Prime at 7am on Friday and Sitka at 7am on Saturday.

I'll be there. Only got Sunday nock times but sent an email to be added to the waitlist for any Saturday openings. This is the only Tac I wanted to shoot 3 days..since my parents live in Red Lodge. Cheap accommodations and home cooked meals. 🫠

I'll be there! I only take a dozen for the weekend. They sell them in the vendor village if I need more.

We will be there all 3 days.

My son, wife and I'll be there. Friday, Jack links @ 8:30, Saturday RMEF @ 7 am, then Sunday Prime @ 7 am. I was Lucky as I won 2 passes in a drawing and only the wife had to do the madness of registration.
I just signed up when I found out my kid is working the RMEF table at Red Lodge.
Any ideas where to stay?

There isn’t a ton of offerings in Red Lodge to begin with. Given the time frame there will be even less. I’d take what ever you can get.

There’s RV spots around too if that is an option.

Terry Peak was HOT, but otherwise great. We shot the Leupold course on Friday and had a good time. Was supposed to shoot Sitka on Saturday but a bad storm came through ND on Friday night and I had to leave Saturday morning to drive home and deal with a messed up roof and huge tree mess.

It was a great test for some gear before elk season and gave me a lot more confidence in my bow setup, rangefinder and binos and harness setup. Also found out my boots are not comfortable at all going up and down hill. Going to have to do some research on those soon.

Lovely 100+ mph winds through eastern ND along with several tornadoes.

What are some ways I can add some range to my setup? I know lowering arrow weight would help, but are there any sights, or style of sights that typically increase available range on a setup?

A sliding sight is the answer. There are numerous sights available, just pick your preferred brand and have fun extending your range.
