Too many calibers?

I have got to a point where I am downsizing on calibers and chamberings. Trying to get to 3 calibers for rifles. 35, 25, and 6mm. That should cover everything.

I figured out I have no use for 7mm, 6.5mm, 50 bmg, and 30 cal. I just don’t enjoy recoil and they don’t do anything that the other 3 won’t do. Time to get rid of bullets, brass, and barrels.

For older guns, I have a 35 Remington marlin lever, I think it's a 1969, and then my grandfathers 30-30 savage bolt, so a lot of 30 caliber rifles.

Last night I took butt pad off the Browning Abolt and ordered a limbsaver. The browning was pretty hard so this will be a nice change. I also have an older Leupold 3-9 VX-II scope on it that I might replace.

I have concluded that I need to be able to rationalize why need to buy another gun/cartridge. Way beyond any rational need as I have every caliber from 17 to 30 covered and most in multiple cartridges. Does this present an ammo/loading issue? Yes, but just need more room for storage. Any gun/cartridge that is going to be shot in volume is readily supported with an adequate supply of ammo or reloading components. I likely have a lifetime supply of ammo or reloading components for most cartridges but could run out in a relatively short time for others.

I still have a few more on the want list but I'm not in a big hurry to get anything. That said I picked up a 10/22 threaded barrel and a dedicated can the other day just because. No actual need, but will find a use for it. My son is really going to have fun when I am gone digging through the collection and wondering what the heck dad was thinking when he bought this.

And, BTW, I have sold at least 50 guns over the years with very little remorse. Needs very. Ymmv.

I used to be able to spend a lot of time handloading, tending to rifles, and shooting. Once kids came, I just didn’t have the time and I found some resentment building. So, I really dumbed down my rifle inventory and focused more on pre-season scouting (something I could take my kids and have them remain interested). I plan on reducing my collection even more.
