A thumbs up for the plain jane no non-sense top lid. The hollow area underneath is perfect for stashing a wet tarp as well as being lighter over all for the pack. Very glad I have had this lid when my pack isn't needing a tad more storage space.

I guess I am missing the concept so I will just ask....why couldn't one store the tarp in a similar matter with a long inter style lid?

You could do the same thing with the long lid. A lot of people think of the plain jane lid as less than equal to the lids with options. I just wanted to show a use I prefer with the plain lid because of the generous concave shape to it. I enjoyed the day in wet weather and thought I'd share a post. Storing the tarp under any lid would work the same basically.

Ohok cool thanks for the explanation! Another cool thing about the standard lid is large waistbelt pockets can be attached on top if you just want another exterior pocket option for better organization as well.

Thanks for that little tip Luke as I have a large pocket full of fishing gear that I wasn't really planning on carrying come hunting season. And I've been trying to figure out a good place to keeping a stalk kit for when I drop the pack.

Gloves, face paint, flagging, beenie, bandana, wind puffer and an extra pair of socks in the large pocket attached to the top of the pack. Problem solved!

I love the occasional Aha moments we get here on Rockslide :)

The contour shape also secures a sawyer or similar bladder bag when filled on your way back to camp for easy secure carry!
