Depends on my application, but I'd say I never have less than 2 hoods in ANY kit that I'm carrying as two is one and one is none. But likewise, I likely never have more than 3 in a system either.
I don't "typically" like my base layer with a hood (with the exception of hot sunny hunts) and I almost always have a puffy and a rain jacket with a hood, so that really only leaves me room for 1 more hood max, typically a mid-layer.
Ill tailor my layering system so I never have to wear more than 3 at a time. For example...
August Mule deer hunt: Sitka LW hoody or Wick SS, Ambient hoody or Grumman, Jetstream vest, M5 jacket.
November Mule deer hunt: FL Wick LS, Peloton 97 or Ambient hoody, Kenai vest and/or Grumman, Jetstream or Cold front jacket.
