You probably don't NEED anythying, but if you are a gear junkie you are always looking for new better stuff. Looking forward to seeing what Patrick and Aron can cook up now. :D

You're kidding right? I knew this was going to happen. I just "accessorized" my T2, and now there's new stuff coming out. I need a second job.

I doubt anything will change with the suspension or any of that which makes the packs great. Probably just functional changes, which are still cool but not crucial to making the packs carry heavy loads or the comfort of them. But I do feel your pain!

Calm down boys! :)

Nothing changing on the Tline and no packs will be coming out that in the same category.

He gave something away... There is possibly a new category or new packs in other categories! ;) I don't think anything could replace my T2 though it would have to be really good to make me consider it!

Took my first decent load in the T2 this weekend. That hip belt is without a doubt the most comfortable I have ever used and I really like the pack's layout (thanks Aron and Patrick). I am glad I got the T2 size, as it along with the Grabit should do everything I need it to do. On the rare occasions that I get to do an extended backcountry trip like Luke does, I figue that I can always add a medium to large UL pod to the top of the pack if needed (this would be particularly useful for the pack out if I am lucky enough to have some meat in the pack ). With the way the pack contracts down for day hikes, a T1 would have worked for me also though. A T3 just would not have been large enough for me.

I think Kifaru is going to do quite well with these packs for a while yet to come as customers become salesmen. I have a friend or two who will be trying my pack soon and will be I think likely getting a T1 or T2 this year (they have been saving money and on the fence, and were actually thinking of getting a T3, but I think they will change their minds once they feel how light the T2 is and how it compresses down).

Okay, let's get back on track here. I had an epiphany today. I was on the fence for a while regarding T1 vs. T2 but now I am 100% certain it is the T2 for me. There are several reasons. To start with, if you look at the T1 with the snow collar extended it looks like that dog in the Grinch Stole Christmas towering a good 14 stories above his head. Just kidding, if you don't like the idea of 'adding' pouches, look at it like this. You can add these pouches for not only organization but to make items EASILY accessible while in the day-hunt mode. If the whole pack is scrunched down then the pockets will help to keep things on the outside of the pack. Also, assuming you have an animal down and need a place isolated from your meat, carry a KU medium pod to house it in. Just my two cents.

Or you can look at it like this, if you NEED the extra cu in the T1s got 'em and the T2 doesn't unless you pony up the coin and add the pouches. You may look like the grinch that stole Christmas if you need the space, but atleast you have the option to haul that many cubes without spending $200+ on accessories. The T-Line packs are already laid out pretty well and between waistbelt pockets, a should strap pocket, the side sleeves, a large KU possibles pouch on the standard top lid, and the two pockets on the back of the T-Line its already laid out pretty well. Granted many here aren't going on several 7-14 day expedition style trips every season so most don't need the extra cubes, but even then if you ever think you MIGHT want to its nice to have the option to do so if needed without buying a different pack or adding a bunch of pockets.

Just goes to show how everyone's needs are different not right or wrong and kudos to Kifaru for recognizing that and offering a bunch of different packs styles to find a type of pack that works for nearly everyone's needs and hunting styles.

Id rather go up in height then out, a big load is going to be akward either way. I didnt go with the t2 and pockets because i though that negated the already light weight of the pack. Shoot the amount of pockets some are talking there already up in that 8lb range. To me the few that are on the pack are good, i may add 1 or 2 here and there as time goes on.

I dont know how well pockets on the outside will work when the pack is fully compressed in daypack mode.

Luke makes a valid point. But... what makes up the difference from a 6 day to a 10 day hunt if you are packing in and not really bivying each night? 4 days of food a pair of undies and another pair of socks. Because I am 5' 11" I got the T2 and if I "need" the extra space I got the back pouch which fits on the bottom and back of pack and top. Looking back I should have got a large or medium pod but I like having my sleep system on the bottom of pack than have a pack a foot over my head. To me it carries better and what not. But if I was going to be doing 10+ days every year, I would get a T1 for sure. But the T2 will do it.

Another reason i got the T1, im not just using it for an x day hunt each year. Alot of people base thier decision on how many days they are going. I for one want 1 big pack, and 1 small one (t3 or 3700 in the future) And for me if im getting a big pack its got to do everything, especially at that price. not just an x day hunt, but all the backpacking, fishing and snowshoeing trips i take, for the price i paid its got to tackle them all, and for me the w/ the extra space of the T1, i have no doubt it will do a FINE job for anything from overnight to 10+days. I would really like a t3 though for weekenders!

Its not the going in you need the extra space for Cmeier on a long hunt is the coming out with camp AND game meat AND cape and horns. Like I said though, if you never plan on doing such a trip the T2 is the way to go for your uses, I'm sure you'll be MORE than happy with it. Rock on man!!!

Lawnboi,

If you were gonna buy two Timberline packs the T1 and T3 make perfect sense to me. If I were gonna by two of any of the Kifaru hunting packs though it'd be Longhunter with 8500 cu in rondy bag and a KU 5200. :D

I was screwing around with lid options today to figure out some combos that would work best.

The best option to go with the standard flat lid (for me anyway) would be the "500 Mid Long". The 500 claymore would be my second choice, but both work great. I know several people have used the claymore already, but I have not seen the Mid mentioned yet.
