Tikkas with factory threaded barrels?

It’s not a heavier profile, per se, but it does taper at the muzzle to a thicker diameter to allow for the 5/8 threading. My guess is the loss of 2” of barrel will still end up reducing overall weight even with the taper, when compared to an OG 22”. Weigh it and let us know!

I'm going back in tomorrow and if they'll let me see it from 10 day hold I'll get a weight on it. All their in stock Tikkas are the SL, so don't think they have a "new model" to check out besides mine.

First post. Need some info! I ordered a 308 lite from sportsman's Warehouse a week ago. was supposed to be SS 22" barrel, non threaded. Just went in to do paperwork on it. To my surprise it was 20" and threaded. Sweet I thought. Free upgrade (I was going to chop and thread in future). This will be hunting rifle for Backcountry backpack hunts. I looked up the part number before doing paperwork but couldn't find anything on it. So said screw it, I'll take it.

Got my paper work done. Started 10 day wait (WA). Couple hours later I'm thinking about it and now I'm wondering, if it's threaded for 5/8-24 does that mean it's a heavier barrel profile and I'm going to be punished on weight? I was expecting a 6.4 lb rifle per Tikka specs.

After reading this thread I (now) know that Tikka recently made this change to shorter and threaded barrels. SW wasn't aware of it (not surprising) and neither was I. Also seems like Tikka doesn't update their specs regularly so I'm left stressing about it...

I can swing by the store again tomorrow to inspect it more. Maybe get a weight on it. (If they'll let me see a gun on 10 day hold??)
In the meantime can anyone confirm what the barrel profile difference is for this new version vs what the old one would have been? Total weight of rifle?

I leave for backpack bear hunt right after I get this rifle off of hold... Hoping it's what I want and I don't have to start over. I'm short on time. I'm not a huge fan of fluted barrels and thought the lite would only be a small hit over the SL.

Tikka # JRTXB31620MT

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with it.

Their D18 and heavier profiles are almost always fluted. Is yours fluted? If it isn’t, it’s likely the new D16 with flaring at the muzzle for the threads.

It is not fluted. Which is how I want it.
Started thinking maybe I got a varmit version or something. Consensus seems to be that's its tapered. I didn't notice a taper but wasn't looking for it either. When I saw it was threaded I didn't think much about barrel diameter. Not until later when I remembered seeing 5/8-24 on the box and recall reading that 5/8-24 doesn't typically fit on Sporter barrels, that's when the alarm in my head started going off and led me to here.
Hope to find out for sure tomorrow.

You likely got the new D16 barrel with the flared end for threads. If it was a varmint or super varmint you would have noticed. They are 2 pounds heavier than a standard lite tikka.

Any chance when you're in there looking at it, you could get a total overall length on it? I'm in the same dilemma as you and want to make sure I know all of the correct specs before ordering one (since all specs online are not updated). Thanks!
