Tikka updating 300 wsm twist rate- 1-10”

Checking tikkas website, it looks like all of their 300 wsm configurations now show 1-10” twist instead of the 1-11” that they used to be. Have been waiting to see if the wsm would get the faster twist from tikka after they sped up their 300 win mag. Looks like the 30-06 and 308 are 1-10 now too.

Not sure when this changed but assuming recently. Who knows how long till we see them on shelves. It took me a year to find a 8” twist 243 after they changed it on their website.

I've ordered a 300 WSM Superlite this past week...I'm hoping it is 10" twist. Will let you know

Apologies for derailing, but what are you shooting in the 243? Bullet weight wise.

Don’t have a scope for that rifle yet, but planning on starting with Berger 108 elite hunter. The 108 eld-m is the next bullet ill try if it doesn’t like the bergers.

This is great. I've always thought the Tikka 308 rifle in 1:10, plus a 30-06 mag to increase COAL, would be a great, simple platform for launching that 225 ELDM. Started at ~2500 it would be light recoil/blast, but should retain 1500+ fps at 1000 yds. Would outrun a 300 Win Mag/180 by a couple hundred fps out there too...

I just picked up a T3X Lite Win Mag (Cabelas) and it's 1:10 as advertised. You might be able to look up the current Tikka model number and check if that's the one currently sold by the retailer you're eyeing.

It will probably be a while to see the 1-10” at retailers if it’s anything like when they switched the 243 twist rate. But maybe they ran out of 1-11” barrels faster and we will see them sooner

Watch eurooptic and check their advertised twist rates. They were the first ones that I saw that had the 243’s in 1-8” early on.

Yes the 300 win mag I just bought has it stamped on the barrel.

They're speaking about the wsm. The win mag was updated over late 2020, early 21. The WSM got stuck eating up the current supply of 11 twist cold hammer forged barrels apparently.

Well, I guess they have more 30 cal blanks to go thru before updating the rest. Either that or they think the 308/ 30-06 crowd won't notice. They're more likely to say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Tikka had updated the 300 WM to 10” twist but left the 300 WSM at 11”.

I’m hoping they came to their senses and updated the WSM to 10”

Looks like they did speed up the 7 mag and 7/08 to 1:9”. Think they used to be 1:9.5. Would have been nice if they would have gone all the way to 1:8 instead
