Tikka to 6 ARC

Just want to confirm. I need a 223 bolt to convert to 6 ARC?

Any recommendations on who to have do it?

There was a post, I believe in the 6ARC thread, that had a name of smith that was doing the bolt conversions.

That being said, any competent gun smith should be able to open up the bolt head to accommodate the ARC/Grendel/PPC chamberings.

Yep, start with a 223 bolt face. I’m sure there are plenty of smiths that could do the work for you.

Yes, can get a standard bolt face bushed as well but opening up a 223 seems easier.

I believe starting with 223 bolt is easier. Kinport Peak Rifles will do the bolt work for you, back when I had it done I called 2 or 3 local(ish) smiths plus lri and Kinport was the only one willing to do it. I believe it was $125 or so and quick turn around.

Kampfeld will put a bushing in to change a standard bolt face to an arc/grendel/ppc bolt face.

I have a question on this too and I’m new to tikka actions. I have a 6.5 CM tikka. I can swap out the bolt for a 223 bolt, have it opened to 6 arc and nothing else is needed on the action/bolt - just the proper barrel correct?

You can also have a bushing installed on your 6.5 creed to size it down.

Possibly a magazine swap too. I think the 6.5cm uses the m+ mag whereas it might run better with a standard m mag.

I'm wondering about the extractor placement on the 223 bolt vs 308 bolt. They're different distances away from the bolt face center, right? Is either one more reliable/better?

I plan on going the bushing route once I have the funds and can find a good deal on a used Tikka. I’m left handed so 223s are unobtanium.

I emailed Kampfield after he was mentioned on here a few times - he does both and it seems pretty straightforward as far as getting the work done. Replied to my email within a couple of days which I appreciate.

Man I’d love to see a picture or video of a bushed bolt just to see what it is. To me the machine work of opening a bolt face would be cleaner… but I already have a brand new standard bolt off a 6.5 CM

That is who I talked to. I had him cut thread and screw on a prefit for me and was happy with the results. It was a week or two from shipping the parts to having the gun returned.

I just asked about bushing the bolt and cost. I have a 1-10 243 that I was going to turn into a 22 creed or 6 arc. Decided on 22 creed since I had a tikka 223 barrel already and a few hundred TMK’s laying around.
