Hi,
My local Scheels is having a sale on Tikka T3X rifles this Saturday. You get the Tikka $75 rebate plus a $125 gift card to Scheels. They have .270 6.5CM .308 and .300 win leftover. I was thinking of buying it in .300 win and worst case scenario I use the action and build off it down the road.

Have those of you with the magnum chamberings in the T3X line had good success with them? Or what has been the consensus on recoil, accuracy, issues? I currently own a 30-06 and .243 and 6.5 CM so leaning more towards the .300 win to balance out my caliber ownership.

Id say ive had real good luck with them. I love my 300wm superlight
Recoil isn't terrible? I feel like I have read endless comments that people don't like the T3 series in magnum chamberings.

I dont seem to notice
Im not able to watch the shot through the scope after the shot due to recoil. But thats because of it being a lightweight gun. The gun shoots bettwr than i can deliver. And it doesnt feel bad on my shoulder at the range running a few boxes through it. Im confident out to 400 because thats the furthest i can shot at a range here in fl with it, but i personally like to get as close as possible

Good rifle, especially if you're fine using it with factory ammo suited to it's 1/11 barrel twist but there are better options if you hand load/intend to shoot bigger bullets.

Is there a flyer or something you saw? I contacted Scheels via chat on their website, and they told me there were no sales.

My 300 WSM shoots fantastic, and I sure wouldn't muzzle break it. Recoil is quite tolerable. The 338 Win mag with full house 250s isn't a recreational plinker. The 300 Win mag should be just fine.

No interest in reloading, what factory loads work well with 11 twist barrels?

I've been extremely happy with mine in 7 rem mag. I did bed the action in a B&C stock and it shoots .2s and .3s all day long if I do my part. I would not hesitate to buy one in 300 winny--I just wish the twist rate wasn't 1 in 11, or I would already own one.

Buy the 300 Win. If you ever want to rebarrel or use the platform for a custom build you'll have a LOT more caliber options instead of limiting yourself to non-magnum bolt face short action calibers.

I'd say any of the sub 200 grain flavors. I had ok accuracy with the 180 gr Nosler accubonds w/ factory stock, groups around an inch, not great but not bad. The factory stock is ok but you could upgrade that and keep the barrel free floated and have a pretty decent rifle. With a limbsaver recoil pad, recoil is really not that bad at all with the factory stock, felt like the kick with my Remington 700 bdl in 3006. Other thing is the barrel isn't very heavy and there's not a lot of meat to add a brake/suppressor without chopping the barrel down or using an adapter but to each their own on that point. Overall it's a good rifle and sounds like you wouldn't have to come much out of pocket to get one bought.

This is kind of where I am at with it. At minimum, I can just use it for building something custom down the road.

Pretty much all of them. Unless you are shooting Berger 215’s or the like- you’ll be fine. The twist isn’t optimum, but the issue is overblown.

Really like my t3x 300 win. I was getting great accuracy with the 200 grain eldx and shot the Barnes 165 factory stuff good too. I just started reloading for it and tried Barnes 175 lrx and haven’t found a load it likes yet. Recoil isn’t bad, muzzle rise is though, thinking of breaking it just for that reason.

One thing I have noticed researching is I do not have a lot of stock options if I were to build from that action. I only have found McMillan as a manufacturer who makes lefty Tikka stocks. I emailed Wildcat as I saw they were mentioned in another Tikka thread as well.

I have a 300wsm and I prefer its recoil over the recoil of My FIL Parker Hale 300WM but recoil pads make a big difference.
I dont like recoil, but I can tolerate it. Hunting I never feel it. Doing load development I notice it at the 9th or so round.
I really like the Tikkas. I just bought another one that will be a dedicated suppressed CM.

The only reason I could think of you not buying the 300wm is if you want to build something specific off of that action later. An example would be if you really wanted something with a different bolt face than the magnum like a 338-06, 280ai, or one of those Sherman shorts. It can be done, but adds cost.

After you told me to give them a whirl both the 208 and 212 ELDs work just fine in my bros 300 WSM 1:11 twist OEM barrel. Thats at sea level at 20 degrees. Maybe they fall apart spun at slow beyond 1K but I haven't shot them further than that to find out.

Yep. Most are surprised by what the 1/11” twist will stabilize. I’ve shot 200gr Hybrids from a 1-11.25” twist 308.
