Can a Tikka 300 win mag super lite be threaded 5/8-24 without cutting down the barrel?

You would have to thread it 9/16 or 1/2 and, then use an adapter to get it to 5/8.

Yes, with a collar added. This is a 300 wsm threaded 5/8x24 at factory length. There should be plenty of room in front of flutes on a super lite to do this.

Not an adapter, barrel is threaded extra long and collar is 5/8x24, loctited in place, and trued square to the bore.

Its an alternative way of doing it but doesn't stack tolerances in the threads, the threads on the barrel are 5/8-24. The "adapter" is a threaded on piece that only forms the shoulder at the rear and is locktite/rokset into place and machined perpendicular to the bore.

I'm planning to send my 30-06 to Karl to chop to 20" and thread, and then cerakote while he's got it. What's the best way to ship him the barreled action? Per Karl, I plan to remove from stock, remove scope, and drop the trigger. Which shipper is easiest to use? How do you package them? Thanks in advance!

@Okie_Poke i shipped him just the barreled action (no trigger, no rings/mounts, no bolt etc) in a long box and had cardboard pieces securing both ends plus bubble wrap. UPS ground since that's who my business generally ships with and there's a better chance of them paying out if they lose the package. USPS has never paid out a claim when they screw up or lose a package of ours. make sure it doesn't slide up and down in the package or there's a good chance it'll find a way to freedom. and no markings or declarations needed on the box. it's just a hunk of metal getting shipped off to look pretty.

it came back USPS. luckily i'm 200 miles from Kampfeld so it didn't have to go far.

UPS company policy is ffl to ffl only.
So not only will they deny a claim they will destroy you firearm if they find out what’s inside.

I drove mine to his shop in Sandpoint on my way to Seattle.
Maybe not practical for many of you but it sure worked for me to get two Tikkas chopped and threaded.

Same story as above unless you have one of the new 2025 ones with the goofy reverse taper at the end for factory threads. No amount of cutting down a standard Tikka Lite or Superlite will allow a shoulder with 5/8" threads without using either a collar or an adapter. There is very little taper to those barrels past the foreend.

I just did another one cut to 18" with a 1/2" to 5/8" adapter this week.

My understanding is that Karl Kampfeld can do it that way. I had UM cut my 6.5 CM T3X lite to 20" and they had to thread it 1/2-28. I don't mind that. So long as you have a good adapter, it is not a big issue. It can be an issue if your adapter sucks.

Yes but you would have near non-existent shoulder unless one is added as well.

Either thread 1/2” and use a good/know adapter for 5/8” can or, have a GOOD smith add a shoulder for 5/8”.
