I have a T3x SS in .308 and am thinking of picking up a second Tikka. Does anyone notice much difference in felt recoil between the regular Lite and the SuperLite? The website I'm looking at shows the SuperLite as a 6 lb rifle. Is this getting too light for the average hunter? Think most people should stick with the regular T3x Lite?

Threw them both on a scale at sportsman this weekend and they were both 6lb
Same cartridge/ chambering/ bore in both rifles? Same barrel length? Both T3x's ?

6lbs is fine by me, but that doesn't make sense. There is literally less metal on a Superlite.

Just researched the hell out of this one after Roksliders convinced me that I need a Tikka.

At least for 6.5 CM, the website shows no difference in weight for the 22.4" bbl. I couldn't get either through my FFL guy so wound up getting the 24.3" bb T3x Lite in stainless (which they say is 0.2 lbs heaver, aka 3 ounces). You can use their website to compare .308, but near as I can tell the guy above is correct in there isn't much difference in weight.

I've had both and didn't notice anything different when shooting as far as recoil. The Superlite a a bit lighter weight but not enough to worry about IMHO. The main difference between the 2 is just the flutes on the SL. Also, unless they have changed something or the Tikka chart is wrong the SL in 6.5 Creed has a 24.3" barrel, at least the one had did so not sure I've seen one with the shorter barrel but haven't looked at one recently??

Yeah, my FFL guy was a little befuddled when I sent him that chart... not sure what was going on because he normally gets his hands on whatever you ask for.

When I ordered my LH 6.5 SL, the Sportsman’s website said it had a 24.3” barrel. After getting it, I thought my velocities were a little slow and I was wondering how people were chopping 3” off the ends of their Superlites. Turns out mine is 22.4” (and it says that right on the box end that I had not read). Sportsman’s has now corrected their website to show that the left hand version is 22.4”.

This makes me wonder if barrel lengths were equal or if the Superlite’s barrel was longer. Another possibility is that the scale used might not have been sensitive enough to record the difference since fluting an already skinny barrel is not going to take much weight off.

My guess would be a scale sensitivity issue. I have 3 superlites and a couple ounces either way doesnt concern me. I like the fluted barrels but in hindsight, I wish I had gotten my 6.5 with the unfluted/lite barrel so I could chop it back a ways.

Fluting is the only difference and it's a very slight one at that.

Superlite just looks cooler for all real uses. They will shoot as well as I can. Some hunting round group testing, but the one in the middle is 140gr American Gunner. It really like 140gr bullets of all types.

Superlite will limit you to how much the barrel can be cut back (in case you wanted shorter barrel).

menhaden_man ---Your gun guy couldn't get his hands on that gun because if you look at the Tikka SKU# it starts with TF---those guns are not available in the U.S.

yep--people still read them for information and opinions. I do all the time when I want an opinion on something that is of interest to me.
Seems like you were looking too.

Indeed. I am reading this thread just today and finding ALL the information posted useful.

My superlite came with the 24.3” barrel, my buddy ordered the same gun and it came with a 22” barrel.

I’ve also seen a standard t3x lite in 30-06 with a 24” barrel when mine was 22”.
