Please be gentle with me lol, if this has already been discussed. I am looking to build a deer rifle for my wife.
I'm a Tikka guy (yes I am thinking about just running a 223 or 22-250 with 1:8 twist for heavier rounds, if the conversion isn't feasable), I am thinking about Tikka T3X Lite Compact in 223 (so that the LOP can be adjusted), from what I understand what needs to happen is I need to have a gun smith "open up" the bolt face, remove the 0.223 barrel and install a new 0.264 barrel, adjust the headspace, then I have to find a mag that will fit into the factory 223 stock that will relaibly feed 6.5 Grendel rounds (I am sure someone 3D prints those).
Did I miss anything?????? Could this really be that simple?????

EuroOpics has a 223 Tikka with 16" barrel on sale for 570$!!!!!!!!
I would consider 6ARC as well but 6.5 Grenel would be nice for heavier bullets.

Thank you in advance!

The cost is pretty expensive, and the bang not worth the buck, IMO. You can open up the bolt face, but it is better to start from .308. Kampfield does them.

BUT, if it is what you want, then it is easy. With a Tikka you can buy a prefit and it will headspace. Just need to pull the barrel and torque on a new one.

I have some 6 arc barrels on sale if you want to try it. I am also offering actions, but you can probably do it cheaper assembling everything yourself.

I am doing exactly what the OP is asking for. I just ordered a barrel from LS Wild and will hand Kampfield bush my bolt off of a 6.5CM I picked up cheap. I expect some challenges with magazines but I have run Grendel’s through the donor action with factory mag and have had no issues.

I did this as I am standardizing on 22 and 6.5 bullets. Yes the 6 arc shoots flatter and carries the speed farther. BUT I am not building the 6.5G for beyond 300 yards. For me the 6.5G is the perfect deer cartridge from 0-300 for smaller framed or new shooters. No real recoil and good bullet selection traveling just fast enough to do the job.

I doubt you will find an animal that would know the difference between a 6arc and 6.5G from
0-300 yards.

Does your jurisdiction require larger than .224 for big game? If not, there’s no reason to make this conversion.

If it does, it’s far simpler to just get a 6mm ARC or 6.5mm Grendel already made. Or a 6.5mm CM.

I’m 99% sure that you would be better off sticking with a .223 or buying my CZ 527 than devoting time and money to this conversion.
