I wonder how much weight you could shave from fluting the bolt?

Not much. I sent mine to LRI in Sturgis to be fluted, and it removed .3oz (wrought iron pattern of spiral flute).

A combination of making it lighter (I expected at least an ounce of weight reduction) and looks. It looks great, but I was very disappointed in the amount of weight it ultimately shaved. I would guess the more traditional spiral flutes (deeper and narrower than the wrought iron pattern) would reduce the weight more.

I did the traditional spiral, if my memory serves me right, it saved me .5oz.
