Little follow up on my Tikka 7mm PRC. The rifle with nightforce NX8 scope and Hawkins hybrid rings the rifle weight 7lb 8 oz. With the atlas bipod on it it weighs just over 10lbs.
How did you get it to 7 pounds 8 ounce with a 28 ounce optic and a 24” barrel proof?! I’m doing ti everything, and while I don’t physically have the nightforce in my hands yet to weigh, the math isn’t coming anywhere near that. What’s the weight on that stock?

I will weigh everything again with a different scale. Could not find my scale so stuck using someone else scale. stock weights 34 OZ. I have to swap out from the Hawkins hybrid rings to a rail, the Hawkins rings are high but I can see the barrel in the scope.

Not calling you out, just legitimately interested. I’d say pre-bipod you’ll likely be in the 9 pound range. Those nightforces are some heavy ladies but you can’t beat the reliability

That’s fine you can call me out. Went and bought a whole new scale just now. Here is the results and yes the other scale was way off.

Well that was quick! It’s a sweet build man, I appreciate you sharing the info. I’m gonna Try to soak the threads on the Factory barrel the next couple weeks and try and get it off without a smith. Wish me luck

Last picture of the weight. Rifle with empty mag and pic rail, no rings or scope. Basically 7.5lb bare rifle. Need to reinstall the Hawkins rings and sight in the rifle and see how it shoots. I will try and break in/ sight in tomorrow and will post pictures if anyone is interested. I am hoping it’s a shooter.

I had an issue or at least thought I did have an issue. When my NX8 was mounted using Hawkins hybrid high rings I had a small blurry spot on the bottom of the scope, the blurry spot is the barrel or muzzle break. This is a prefit carbon barrel with a little bastard gen 2 muzzle break. Per my rifle builder he said it is common at lower power and at a higher power I shouldn’t see it, I have never ran into this issue but I have also never owned a high end rifle scope. My only other scope that is higher end is my leupold VX6 and didn’t have this issue on my Cooper firearms model 92 7mm rem mag.

Good luck to anyone else building a Tikka 7mm PRC.

Good luck, my gun smith struggled with removing the factory barrel. My tikka was abused and had some rust. I bought mine used and will never buy a used rifle from a stranger again.

So if I i get a 7 rem mag t3x lite, and down the road I want switch to 7prc, and I'm only going to shot factory Hornady, it's as easy as swapping the barrels?

And if I do get a new barrel does anyone make one that would fit the OEM t3x stock or will they be too big? What would I request? Am I better off getting a roughtech stock? I think the roughtechs have a little bigger barrel

I wouldn't need anything fancy like carbon just something that hopefully keeps the weight about the same and is threaded ( I would want a brake too.)

Also if you know anyone that makes/sella solid barrell and can install in house so I can ship to please share where I live is pretty remote with no gunsmith services.
Thanks

I would try to match the contour with a steel barrel blank of your choosing, and then any gunsmith can turn it into a 7mm prc with the appropriate reamer. Tikkas all have the Same bolt/action length(they use a bolt stop), so any magnum bolt face Tikka you buy could be converted, if i am not mistaken. I went the carbon fiber route with a Tikka prefit from proof, so I had to buy a new stock. I love my mesa precision and they make stocks for various barrel contours.

Preferred Barrels in Utah makes barrels that will fit in a factory stock. They will also take off your old barrel and install one of theirs then ship it back to you. You just send them your barreled action. Their prices are very reasonable also.

I have the proof research 7mm PRC 24” barrel and iota stock. I used a gun smith because I have heard tikka barrels can be a pain to remove and I don’t own a gun vise. Muzzle break, barrel and a stock and you can turn your long action tikka into a 7prc.

Has anyone had a standard .308 tikka bolt face opened up to a mag face? I’m thinking about re barreling my CTR in 7PRC or 7 SAUM. Ideally I’d just buy a replacement mag bolt but for the life of me cannot find one available anywhere.

one of my friends had it done to make a 300 prc, so it is possible. I’d just buy another action or tikka donor rifle with what they are charging for Tikka bolts though

I like the looks of the Iota stock. I've been comparing these to McM Gamehunters and they look like similar ergos. How beefy is the forearm? Too fat for comfortable off-hand shots?

Great build, btw.

The forehand is wide compared to any other stock I own. I have not shot it yet but I feel that it will be fine. I may change my mind after trying to shoot it off hand.

I’m real tempted to use a Tikka 300 wm I have sitting in the safe and swap it to a 7mm prc. Thinking of going with a 20” carbon six barrel and either a stockys stock or a folding chassis.
Did you ever do this? I am looking at doing something very similar. I was not really sure if I needed a 7 Rem Mag, or if the 300 WM action would work.

The 300WM will work, swap the barrel out and stock and you will be good. The 300wm and 700 rem mag action are the same tikka long action.
