Tikka stock questions

I just bought a T3x superlite in 6.5cm for my sons to shoot. This will primarily be a lightweight rifle for them to hunt deer/coyotes with. Based on everything I have read the rifle should be good to go out of the box but it sounds like the stock is the biggest item to upgrade if anything. My question is should I buy the victor cheek riser and vertical grip mod or just buy a new stock like the stockys VG?

I am already planning to get some UM rings will be mounting a trijicon creedo 2.5-15x42.

If your sons are using it, you may not want to subject them to the SVG trigger reach.

I'd buy, in this order:
-Vertical Grip
-Limbsaver Airtech
-Cheap drill-through cheek riser (so you can cant it for negative comb)

Of course, Dremel the stock out viciously to enable 1-2 dead cat clearance w/ barrel all the way back.

I had read about the trigger reach issues with the stockys but had planned on fixing that with marine tex. Is there another stock recommendation similarly priced to the stockys? Thanks for the reminder on the airtech.

If you can find a Tikka youth stock they're awesome but hard to find. My buddys son who is now 6'-3" still prefers his youth stock.

You might look into a MDT chassis, I bought one a few years ago for $300 around black Friday or another end of the year sale. I went with a locking Magpul adjustable AR butt stock with a limb saver and adjustable cheek pieces. It works well now for youth and adults.

I agree with the T3x vertical grip, that makes a big ergonomic difference.

Beyond that, I would say see how it goes before messing with it. The Tikka synthetic stock is leaps and bounds better than the typical Rubbermaid feeling stock of other makers.

If your sons shoot it well, I would leave it alone.

If you DO want a different stock, I would suggest a GRS Fenris. Fully adjustable, requires no bedding, you can convert to a CTR mag for 10 rounds of fun, and it's fairly light as well (3 pounds).

Only other reasonable option would be a KRG Echo.

I put the vertical grip on mine, and added a Triad Stock Pack. It comes with velcro strips you can stack inside it to get proper cheek height. Boom. Done.

I modded my factory stock with a Matts Fab riser and vertical grip. It definitely makes it more usable. However, I enjoy getting behind the Stockys VG much more.

+1 for the vertical grip addition. Has a nice palm swell and isn't difficult to install.

The vertical grip is a nice mod on the factory stock, I have a couple guns with factory stocks and I'm not racing to spend the coin to upgrade them at this time. Personally I use stock packs (cheap off amazon) with foam strips under them to build up the height I want versus an adjustable riser. They usually fit 8-10rds of ammo in them too. I even put one on my rokstok (no extra padding)...

This is what I would do but I like the Bradley cheek riser personally. Raise the comb, vertical grip, trigger spring, dremel/sand out the barrel channel and you are gtg. The stockys trigger reach is rly long.

Based on feedback it sounds like the vertical grip is a priority followed by some type of cheek riser and lastly the limbsaver airtech.

Given that this rifle will mainly be for my sons 13/11yrs old to shoot and the fact that its still a 6.5cm, how big of deal is the limbsaver for recoil purposes? Im worried the extra LOP would be a detriment for the kids.

I was also looking into installing a bipod rail which looks like it would require some slight modification to the structural webbing of the stock for the tnut install followed by some epoxy to hold everything in place.

Im still trying to decide if its worth investing the time/$ into the tikka stock or look for alternatives. Aside from stoxkys and the rokstock, the mesa/pure precision stocks seem to be common upgrade.

I do not recommend the Mesa/Pure Precision stock. The geometry is wrong. If you get a new stock, get the Stockys and use the Rokslide30 discount and it’ll be $400. The Stockys will have better recoil control than the Mesa

as long as its a new t3x stock it should have two mounting holes that are threaded. you can get ether a Salmon river solution rail or a mountain tactical rail that will attach without modifying the stock

A vertical grip and a stock pack is <$50 and <20min install.

If you have the option getting a suppressor on there for the kid will help with recoil and also help their hearing in the future.
