Tikka romance confessions wanted

I have two. Both are tack drivers- and I'm not a good shot. It was definitely hitting the easy button. Buy. Slap scope on. Shoot. Smile. I've been playing around with ring/scope combos, and am looking at some semi-custom work which adds to their appeal (to me). I also beat the snot out of my gear, and I don't worry a lick about my tikka stock taking a few dings.
 
They are just a good affordable rifle and they seem to have a better QC process than others in their price range. The bolt is smooth and everything feeds easily. Compared to a savage factory actions and it’s a world of difference (savages are great and shoot too, just never liked the feel of the off the shelf action). I have 2, one 270 and one 300wm, they both just shoot well. The 270 is easily 1/2 moa with the load I worked up. The 300 is at 1 moa but I could still do more load development and get that down.

Another thing is you can get larger caliber Tikka’s used pretty cheap. The 300wm is stainless and looked brand new and I picked it up used for $550. Some people buy lite rifles in big calibers and end up hating it.

I've never had a Tikka until recently. They work well but have some flaws, stupid mags mainly and not so smooth in the hand. Everything can be fixed with money but then you got a 1K+ tikka.

It's like this:

9 pm your leaving with the Barret Fieldcraft and smiling out the door as your buddys are drooling over her

11:30 and now even the Kimber is looking good

2 am yeah come on Tikka lets go.

4 a.m., the only options left at this point are Savage Axes and Remington 783s. Tread carefully, or risk catastrophe.

9 a.m., you roll over and, to your horror, see a Mossberg Patriot. Fear courses through your veins at the potential fallout from this decision.
 
Have 2 of them , smooth action is tough to beat, the 22-250 I have is a laser tack driver. The 7 Mag makes your brain rattle inside it kicks so hard. That ones tough to shoot. Got a Bergara Ridge 2 days ago and its gonna take a run for its money on the Tikkas. I might be biased cause its a new gun , but the Trigger and weight and feel of the stock and barrel are TOP notch. Shoots MOA with the cheapest hornady as well.

I've owned four Tikka's now. Three T3x's and (the one I still have) a stainless T3 in 7mm-08. All of them have been easily sub-MOA with 1/2 MOA being fairly common when I find a good load for the rifle. They are light, accurate, simple and affordable. I have no idea what else someone would want in a hunting tool.

The first three Tikkas I owned, I was talked out of by friends who saw how well they shot and just had to own one themselves. So I worked up loads for them and sold them those rifles - an '06, a .243 and a .308 - all boringly accurate. But the stainless 7mm-08 is mine and always will be.

Yes, it has become quite common to see used larger caliber Tikkas (.300 WM, 7mmMag, even '06) for sale. Cabelas gun library always has a few. I think you're correct about the reason because I bought a brand new T3x in 30-06 and by the time I worked up full power 180 grain loads, I was sick of shooting the thing. So I dropped back to the 7mm-08 and never looked back.

Cheap .300WM are easy to come by in any brand. My wife's barely hit a paper plate at 50 yards. Never even sighted in properly. Too bad for them, cuz it shoots really well.

Probably so, since Tikka groups often look like a woodpecker landed on the target and started boring a single hole. ;)

I know guys who have gladly spent over $2K to get a rifle that shoots nearly as good as my Tikkas and weighs twice as much. But at least they can tell their buddies they have a "custom" rifle, so there is that...
