Tikka rebarrel to 9.3x62

I went with McGowen. Sent them my left hand stainless Ruger 30-06 and they rebarreled it with a 22 inch tube. They only offer the 9.3x62 in a 1-12 twist but that is perfect IMO.
It will be awhile before I get a chance to shoot it as I have a couple of other rifles ahead of it that need glass bedding and loads worked up and sighted in. But I don't expect any feeding issues as I owned 9.3's in the past and never had any issues.
That's funny, my .35 Whelen started as a stainless Ruger MKII in .30-06. I had it rebarreled and chambered in .35 Whelen with a stainless Bevan King barrel. Hunted with it for a few years. It was always heavier then I liked but when I put a Nightforce SHV it pushed it over the edge weight wise. Then I found out on Rokslide that the barrel thread and pitch are the same on Tikka and Ruger with a slight tenon lenght difference. I pulled the barrel from the Ruger and had it screwed on a spare Tikka with minor chamber work. Saved a pound!

Are you concerned much with velocity loss? The bullets for those rifles don’t have great BCs.

You could always just rebore with JES. He does good work
Nosler 250 AB is 0.494, which you wouldn’t assume. If you reload, you can get it going at 2600ish, which yields equally surprising ballistics for an ancient cartridge designed to keep elephants and buffalo off the front lawn.

It’s been awhile since I’d looked at nosler. Can one even find nosler bullets in 358 these days? at a reasonably competitive price??

They still sell .358 and .366 bullets, though availability varies. Maybe Barnes, and Hornady too. Nothing seems competitively priced.

Just re checked. Nosler is still significantly more expensive in the 358 class than their competitors (accubond $86 for 50, partitions are more) , and they are still out of stock of partition and accubond in 358 (it’s been years now I believe). Barnes and Hornady are available, and have been. 🤷 I do wish nosler would start producing their 358 and 375 bullets again
