Building out a custom Tikka 7PRC. Looking at direct mount options; currently considering the UM Tikka rings and the Hawkins Hybrids. Both are very lightweight (around 4oz), are there any other options out there I should be considering??

Also total side thought but wondering if I should cerakote them to match my action or leave them black? My XLR is tungsten and I’ll go either FDE or bronze for the action… pictures always welcome!

The UM tikka rings are the way to go.

The Hawkins use the clamping force of the tiny 6-48 screws of receiver to secure the rings. No recoil pin.

I’ve tried Talleys and they have worked but am always little nervous about the fact they are extruded not milled. I am using the sportsmatch and like them better but find the pins supplied don’t fit in the receiver holes so I’ve placed the front one in the oversized receiver hole pushed forward. At some point I will spend the $$ and just get the UM’s. An oz or two more isn’t worth agonizing about imo. The game does keep getting more expensive.

Unknown Munitions Tikka rings: 4.5 oz
Sportsmatch T084 rings: 3.6 oz
Talley rings: 2.6 oz

I have used and recommend the Sportsmatch and UM Tikka rings and prefer the UM due to the pin options and attention to details like nitriding the screws. I wouldn't use a direct mount option like the Talleys to save weight, not worth it. You'll find pictures of Talley failures if you search here.

I had the Talleys and had no issues on a Superlite in 300 WM. I went back with UM when I swapped scopes. The UM's are on a totally different level, and I'm glad I spent the money on them.

Get the UM rings. They are the only tikka ring I will using moving forward. I have a set of sports match I will be selling.

The UM is a much better design.

I just went through that same exercise and same thing. I had UM rings on one rifle and thought I would try the Sportsmatch ona friends rifle I’m putting together for him. Nope. Bought another set of UM.

Have hawkins featherweights installed on a couple rifles that are finally coming home from the smith building them. Weight is 1.8oz for 30mm lows, better than talleys.

it seems like the general consensus is that the UM rings are definitely more overbuilt/rugged/secure but come at a slight weight and obviously a cost penalty.

Comparative to the SM rings which are plenty secure, maybe an ounce lighter, but probably half the cost.

Being local to UM and getting 10% off being a FR, I can skip shipping cost and lighten that burden a little. Still they’ll be nearly double the $60 SM’s.

Question is I guess is a one ounce weight and $50 savings worth while?
