Tikka bottom metal replacement questions

Will they work with a 6.5 creedmoor or any cartridge not needing longer coal?

I assume they would work with any stock manufacture that takes factory Tikka bottom metal.

Yes they will. They have standard or magnum magazines. They do not have a 223 mag yet but are supposed to be working on one.

Correct should work with any tikka stock as long as it’s not cut for ctr or aics bottoms metal.

I changed my mind and went with the Lumley's due to the lower cost and they also sell trigger springs I could bundle with the purchase/shipping. Now I'm getting a bit of buyer's remorse because there is more feedback out there on the High Desert product. Based on your usage with the Lumley's, do you have any issues or regrets going that route?

None at all. I've had one for a while anfd just added a T1x and another T3x Lumley Arctic. They fit tight, but work well.

Piggybacking on this thread with a few follow up questions:

• Aside from folks just having a preference for metal and the ability to apply more torque to the action screws, are there any known/common issues with the durability of the plastic bottom "metal"? Are there frequent issues with it breaking from rough use/dropping or from torquing it down too much, etc.?
• I'm not much of a DIYer. Of the 5 or so different brands of bottom metals mentioned in this thread, which one would have the best chance of being a simple drop-in fit without the need for shims, fitting, etc.? I would be using it for a factory Tikka walnut stock (.243 Hunter model).
• Is it also a good idea to replace the plastic Tikka mag with a metal one (if one even exists?), or are the factory mags good to go?

There is nothing wrong with the tikka plastic bottom metal or the plastic standard and magnum magazines. They work well and are not subject to undue breakage.

Metal bottom metal is usually about looks, and sometimes about not wanting to mess around with washers at elevated torque. If you are not a DIYer there is no reason to replace the plastic. Use 55 in-lb of torque and let us know if it doesn’t shoot well.

Metal magazines are usually about increased COAL on long action cartridges or fixing 223 bolt face feeding problems. Neither is applicable to you.

Yes, this is very helpful...thank you. If I do decide to replace the plastic with metal, any thoughts on which one would likely require the least amount of fiddling (shims, fitting, etc.)?

The High Desert Midas Linear comes with extra clearance that probably gives you your best shot. And the owner ships shims and will help you troubleshoot.

The Lumley bottom metals should not need fitting in a wood stock either.
