6 PRC reloading

As a guy whose never reloaded a single round in his life, would it be completely stupid to jump into a wildcat like the 6prc? Or should i learn on something "normal"?
Is there much, if any difference in processes once original brass is sized?
6 PRC is very straightforward regarding handloading. If you can't learn as you go with a 6 PRC, you won't learn as you go with anything else.

Update- turning the die and extra 1/2 turn made a difference and about half close with no resistance and the other half close with some resistance but significantly less. I think I’m good enough to load up some and see what happens when I shoot and try to reload it.

If any of you guys haven’t posted your load for 116s I think this would be the right time to do it.

Do your fired cases chamber with no resistance? You can see this problem when sizing die and chamber aren't a good match. Couple of things to look at is how much you die is sizing the body/shoulder junction, usually .003 to .004 is plenty. Also can check how much the cases are growing in case length. Shouldn't be seeing much length growth with a 30 degree shoulder case. It darn sure could be your press is flexing a bit. Looking at your pics it looks like the neck bushing is leaving some ridges on your case necks. Bushing may need a good cleaning and polish.

I haven’t fired this barrel yet. I’ll have to check what happens to the brass after i get out and shoot it for the first time in a few days.

Got ya, I was thinking they were once fired. This sounds like a great cartridge for some more horse power.

Thanks for the help guys! I confirmed problem was that I wasn’t pushing back the shoulder far enough. I had moved my setup and it wasn’t as sold as I thought. Also I had the die turned in too far and it was preventing cam over. So I fixed my setup and am now bumping the shoulder back with ease and it’s feeding with no resistance.

It shot the 116s in to just under an inch with H1000 on my powder ladder (8 rounds), and 565 slightly over an inch on the ladder (9 rounds). Both ladders were at least a 4g spread, so I think it will shoot ok for me.

Got my 6PRC finalized for the year. New bow coming soon need to be playing with it before cow elk opens in Nebraska.

Tikka T3X action

First bolt gun I have built and done full load dev on and it’s been a treat.

Google AI mode saved me hours of forum reading and got me to the best combo of what I had on hand quickly.

What is your velocity?

I have another node closer to 3100fps, good accuracy and no pressure on cold bore, but if I tried to shoot twice that second round was trouble on the pressure. Im at 1500' elevation and it was 80 degrees. If I didn't have the chance to use this in Aug, when we can still be 80-90 degrees I would have stayed up top here. Would have been fine late fall winter.

that was 57.7 gr of N565, 3092 fps on the Garmin.

That sounds good. Yea I’m running into clickers on my 18 PBB and was wondering if I’m just pushing it too hard. Virgin brass will get me to right around 3100 with 565 but can’t get close to that with twice fired or I’ll get clicks. Tried lapua and adg, whole bunch of dies, sac mandrel so I just don’t know. Weird part is I never get any other signs of pressure, just the clicks.

That would of been the second firing of that brass. I use the SAC setup for sizing and their Infinity APS die to seat. I'm using Federal GM215M magnum primers and just seat those with an rcbs hand primer.

Two ways to solve it...a sizing die with a tighter base (I've heard Cortina has one) or open the chamber up enough that the current dies size the base. AW chamber should do that.

I'm running 3100 w/ 105 hybrids in 18" Barrel. I really like shooting it.

Anyone not using a prc reamer with 0.535 at 200 line is way behind the times.
Yea, this has been back to PBB and about to head back again. Fired brass measures .533. Have tried 5 different sizing dies as well as a cortina mandrel die that is supposed to size the base better. Not sure what to do anymore. No way to get a reamer for the 6 prc to ream it like I have on my other prcs. I kinda have to go with what PBB has for reamer spec but it seems others arnt having issues

Roll sizer is an option. Spendy piece of kit tho for one issue, but it would solve it.

Could call PBB get a copy of their reamer print. Send the print off to JGS and have them duplicate it, but just change 0.200 line dimension to 0.535. Clean the heck out your chamber/throat and then hand ream your chamber. Other reamer companies are out there and prob faster, but JGS is prob the highest quality and ground to spec option.

The reamer is def cheaper than a roll sizer. I own a rollsizer, I could shrink your base down to 0.531, it'd only cost you an hour of my time(pending quantity of brass) plus round trip shipping.
