I’m trying to figure out if this is normal….

I have a tikka action that I rebarreled and replaced the trigger spring and put it in a vg2. I did torque and paint pen the trigger screws. I’ve noticed with the gun loaded and the safety engaged that bolt can still open slightly which is enough to stop the safety from being disengaged until I press it down.

Is this normal? Sounds small but i needed to make a quick shot and couldn’t because my damn safety wouldn’t shut off. I guess brush had grabbed it.

Normal. I have become accustomed to pressing down on the bolt handle with my index finger before hitting the safety with my thumb.

Because we carry condition 3, it’s generally not a problem. That is, we are racking in and going on safe as we set up final firing position.

All of the Tikkas I have are the same. If the safety doesn't disengage, push the bolt down slightly. This is much better than other designs that don't lock the bolt down. If the bolt is lifted on them, it will let you disengage the safety and fire, but most of the spring tension will be put into trying to twist the bolt down. This results in a loud click and probably a misfire.

Normal and now that you know about it you'll either muscle memory to push down as you draw already or figure it out in a microsecond.

FYI, the new short handle with ball UM knobs are supposed to help with this since the ball is closer to the stock. I haven't tested that part out but the ergos are nicer on the ball regardless.
