Tikka actions vs Custom Actions

Because I view tikkas as donor actions. I’m going to do everything I can to preserve the action and saving a factory barrel isn’t a concern of mine.

Do you think tikka donor actions or bolt faces/lugs really benefit from to be trued and squared up (blueprinted)?

Not from what I’ve seen. They’re as close to true custom action consistency as you can get from a factory action.

I do have a few that I’ve had my smith take the face off so 1.25 shanks fit flush but only for my personal actions that will only be fitted with barrels chambered and threaded by my smith. But that’s purely cosmetic.

That sounds pretty cool! Can you share what that looks like?

They absolutely do benefit from lapping the lugs. If one lug isn’t making good contact, it can induce undesirable harmonics into the action/barrel. The 3 tikkas I have, have all need the lugs touched up. This and bedding are about the only things a Tikka could benefit from.

Are there any tikka “specialists” gunsmiths that are skilled in maximizing the tikka t3x potential?

Justin Kinport is the best I’ve found. He’s made all of mine shoot equal to my defiance and kelbly actioned rifles. Certainly never lapped the lugs to achieve it either. At some point you’re entering the realm of voodoo.
Ok lol. I bet he did. It’s standard practice for accurizing.

Where do I find him?
