I'm only posting because you mentioned finances being a thing and owning a 243 View attachment 1077726
Lots of cheap ways to launch an 80-90 grain bullet a couple hundred at 2600-2700fps yards without spending a G. 4198 and some 87 grain vmaxes will do the same thing.
But far be it from me to keep a man from building a rifle![]()
And, if I can overcome some of the sentimental obstacles, I might even succeed in really pillaging the old gun safe.
I’m going to sell one or two of my other project rifles in the next couple of months to refill the fun fund. And, if I can overcome some of the sentimental obstacles, I might even succeed in really pillaging the old gun safe.
I've been way busier than expected and haven't had time to shoot any volume through it yet.2.75" iirc wasn't it? Any more feedback on those? Not sure if you've gotten to use them much.
Heavies too slow so it pencils out better with the lighter?6x45 is great. I have 2 of them. 87gr Vmax is where I always land after testing nearly everything I can get my hands on.

I have plenty of experience shooting deer with 243, and id look no further than the sierra 85gr hpgk, #1530
I think your going to have trouble finding a 1:7 twist that isnt a 450 dollar brux / bartlein. I had to look to find a 7.5 twist for my howa mini build.
If you build your 6x45 around 87gr and lighter bullets, barrels will be alot easier to find, and the 85gr mentioned above as well as the 87vmax and others will do just fine.
Keep us posted, im not in a 6mm state, we are allowed any centerfire, but I like that little shell. Plan is to fill my doe tags this year with my 17 hornet...![]()
