I'm only posting because you mentioned finances being a thing and owning a 243
Lots of cheap ways to launch an 80-90 grain bullet a couple hundred gards at 2600-2700fps without spending a G. 4198 and some 87 grain vmaxes will do the same thing.

But far be it from me to keep a man from building a rifle

I’m going to sell one or two of my other project rifles in the next couple of months to refill the fun fund. And, if I can overcome some of the sentimental obstacles, I might even succeed in really pillaging the old gun safe.

I have a Shaw 223 wyld that is on my cz 527 and it shoots great. Local smith put it on and headspaced it for 100 bucks. Just had it chambered long.

I can really appreciate this, as at one point I had a similar thing click into place, where I offloaded a bunch of interesting or collector-type items that had been extremely cool to me in prior years. I've always run the daylights out of my handguns, but a few rifles and shotguns, especially nicer hunting and a few surplus-type rifles, more or less were always safe queens. The money from selling those got put into a couple of really select long-gun setups and piles of ammo - and I've gotten vastly more satisfaction out of shooting all that, than I ever had in having those cool guns. About the only ones left are a couple of older heirloom guns that'll get passed down. But yeah, it's way better having the skill and connectedness that comes from really mastering a useful gun. And funny enough, those heirloom guns I still have...they're the hard-use guns my dad and grandfather had. Almost no monetary value in them because of that. But the sentiment is there in heaps.

Just cuz I feel like being cantankerous… if practice is what you are after at the best price per round you are prob ahead to light load the .243 and buy replacement tikka take off barrels. .

I do not follow this advice.

The mini 6s are stupid fun.

Price to load 6mm projectiles in 6arc not including brass, right at 0.60 (30gr powder).

6arc can be found for $1 round for factory. I like having the factory option.

I would be annoyed not having quick drop compatible load capability, like super annoyed. My current .223 factory ammo is very accurate, but annoying that I have to use a 1.5 quick drop.

That being said “Form” logic often gets me, I eventually try what is suggested and low and behold…

That barrels going to last forever…. Don’t waste your money on an economical option.

Buy a quality blank, bartlein, Krieger, ace, benchmark…. There’s others too.

Send it to a good smith, someone who is putting his name in it and is the only person touching it.

On second thought. Just build a dasher and be done with it. Shoot the heavy tmk and load brass right out of the box.

2.75" iirc wasn't it? Any more feedback on those? Not sure if you've gotten to use them much.

I've been way busier than expected and haven't had time to shoot any volume through it yet.

I know we can't help ourselves and also enjoy talking about other options but nothing other than 6x45 makes sense to me for this application. He's buying a barrel regardless. He has the correct bolt face for 6x45. He has all the brass he needs. If he's loading 223 he probably has the powder he needs. He already has longer magazines.

He seems to shoot pretty often so his 243 will not last for ever. The BR,Dasher,GT sounds cool and he can always go that route when his 243 needs a new barrel without modifying a bolt face.

6x45 is great. I have 2 of them. 87gr Vmax is where I always land after testing nearly everything I can get my hands on. Lots of good reviews on Preferred barrels prefit, or get a blank of choice/gunsmith of choice. I have a reamer you can use, although there is no factory ammo there is a SAAMI chamber, which I have.

Yes. Just seems like there are better cartridge choices for the 100gr and up. They eat up a lot of powder space in the .223 case. Plus my barrels are 9 and 10 twist. I like bullets to leave around 27-2800 if at all possible. I'm at sea level and cooler temps so I don't get the high DA boost.
