Tikka 6.5 PRC Lite Cut Barrel Length?

What do you want in a brake? Max recoil reduction without regard for noise, something like the tipro is good. If you want a little less obnoxious noise wise (but still f’in loud) something with a flat first port or less rearward angled ports is the answer.

17” and suppressor is what I’m doing with mine. Have a couple 20” barrels and I don’t miss the velocity on either one.

Well this got interesting. The main reason I wanted to cut it is to avoid spending $500 on a double gun case for air travel when I have a PelicanAir double bow case. I can fit the bow along with all my clothes, trekking poles, tripod, camp, etc. Plus the added benefits of wielding a shorter gun.

FWIW, I was only going down to 22" originally since that's what Tikka Roughtechs come with from the factory. 22" would be tight as far as cutting a foam insert. It would have to be 2 pieces of foam which is fine. It does fit diagonally though, likely even with the scope.... 🤔
For the record I would also not hesitate to cut to 22" if it was a convenience thing like fitting in a case I already owned👍🏼

Tikkas just have anemic velocities to begin with and I like speed. So id probably be trying to fit it diagonally!

Yeah I ditched the brake idea. I don't want to risk injuring someone at the range, on a hunt or myself if I forget to put ear pro in/on.

I'm an archery hunter and this is my first rifle. I didn't know how concussive brakes are till I did some reading. Anyway, still have a lot to learn about rifles. I live in NJ and we have a 5 month, 7 day/week archery season. No rifle season at all (other than muzzleloader). And a commie state so no cans 🙄

Appreciate your help!

Couple thoughts;

If fitting the rifle in the case is the issue, you can pull the recoil pad off the stock... two screws is all that holds it on there.

If you aren’t planning on a suppressor, I too would suggest leaving the barrel at 24 inches. Factory 140 or 147eldm match ammo will have plenty of velocity to get well beyond your max range.

If your present state of residence is your only reason for not owning a suppressor... you could consider ways to own the suppressor but keep it in the western state you plan to hunt in.

Great idea and I actually have someone in eastern Montana. Didn't think of that!

As for the gun, I chopped it to 21". Now it fits in my double bow case. Just running Hornady 143 ELD-X and getting about 2,700 FPS. Been thinking of trying ELD-M and probably will, but it's dead nuts right now.
