I think the HCA magazines are a very good solution for enabling longer COAL in a Tikka 300 WSM. They recently released their Gen2 model that addresses a few opportunities present with the Gen1 version... https://www.hellscanyonarmory.com/tikka-t3x-t3-billet-magazines

I've not tried the Gen2 but have every reason to believe it is a great solution. What would be great is Tikka getting off their rear-end and:
1) change barrel twist rate to 1:10 or 1:9.5
2) ship WSMs with the long action bolt stop
3) change the design of their magazine to utilize the full COAL possible, which will be something around 3.1
Damn it Tikka wake the hell up!

Reviving this thread a bit. Any feedback on the gen 2 HCA WSM magazines? I found a used lefty Tikka in 7 mag and I've been on the fence about going the custom route with a 300PRC or using a long action Tikka to make a 22" 300WSM. This deal is almost too good to pass up and I feel like it might be a sign. The HCA WSM magazines seem to be the best option or narrowing out the stock mags which I will also try.

I just wanted to do my homework prior to purchasing the rifle to make sure I can do everything I want with it. If I can get confirmation on reliable LA WSM feeding then I plan to rebarrel and get a new stock. Have plenty of guns and don't need it for any reason other than to have something to shoot 200gr+ which are heavier than what I shoot out of my 30-06.

Agree with everyone in here, if Tikka would just make these off of their long action with a faster twist barrel, I think they would sell like hotcakes.

Mines been struggling a little. I haven’t messed with it much but it appears the nose gets caught up a bit. I need to mess with it a bit more to see if it’s me, but it wasn’t turn key for my setup anyway. I have about 3-4 various mags now including factory and none seem to work flawlessly. Sucks.

Thanks for replying! This is exactly the kind of info that I was looking for. Nothing worse than spending 2k on a rifle and it won't feed correctly. I figure someone would have something that would make these long action WSMs work well.

It took some finagling but I was able to get my gen 1 HCA to function. I’d say give HCA a call. After my experience with my tikka in 300 wsm, I’d jump all over a good deal on a tikka

Well… the situation is stock and bottom metal-dependent. As little as nothing could be required to shimming the front of the bottom metal using a thin washer and / or filing the catch on the magazine towards the top of the magazine. I would imagine a thin shim would take care of any hard magazine matching issue. I’d encourage to call the dudes at HCA with your stock in mind - super helpful.

My bigger issue with the G1 was being able to close the bolt with 3 shells in the magazine… the G2 solved that problem.

The new gen 2 that fits OEM stocks is struggling? I have one on order

Again very likely me. I’m pretty sure it’s the Gen 2. Ordered in January.

If your alls works let me know I may reach back out or buy another one to see if maybe I just got one a bit out of tolerance. It is very tight in the BM (which I actually kinda like).

Edit: I’m going to mess with it more tonight to see if it’s just me and maybe ask you all for some advice if you are shimming BM or not.

If it’s tight, shim the front of the BM… or just loosen front BM screw a smidge to test the mechanism of the tight fit. If it’s easier when loose, a shim will likely solve the problem.

Gents. Confirmed 100% me. I had the stupid internal magazine spring (sits on trigger) upside down. Believe it or not it does function still that way…..just not very good, hence comments.

Mine is GTG and apologies for the chaff.

I did attempt to shim before I figured out my error! But in the end not required in my setup (using the stockys CF btw).

Thx for pushing me to solve my own silly issue.

Outstanding! Can you close the bolt with 3 rounds in the magazine? Or install fully loaded magazine with bolt closed?

I can get three to feed well. (Edit: Will not seat fully with bolt closed and three). With a 7wsm btw. And weighed it if anyone cares. It was 3.1oz vs 2.1oz for 4 round tikka plastic PRC mag, and 1.5oz or so for 3 round plastic wsm mag (doesn’t feed as long as the other two).

I did need a LA bolt stop to feed out of the HCA fyi.

Betting a small front shim would help the seating of 3x and the HCA.
