Dad bought a Roughtech Ember and fortunately had an 8 twist barrel. There was no indication of twist rate on the barrel like there normally is on a Tikka. Using a cleaning rod and a tight patch it was confirmed that it was in fact an 8 twist

Model # is JRTXRBS315. That’s for a stainless Roughtech Ember with 22” barrel in .243.

I will say that this is a sample of one. And who’s to say that Tikka will be consistent with there manufacturing process. I just thought it may help you guys in your search.

I’d say it will be 243 for a while. Maybe forever.
I’ll admit that the AI thought has already crossed my mind. But, not my gun. 😁

Went to Scheels yesterday and this was how the ss 243 was marked:

The blue 243 next to it had 10” stamped on the barrel. I don’t know how to decode their markings but. All those 18 made me think 1:8”

The PEA1818 marking is the barrels serial number, and not a twist marking at all. The action serial on that particular gun would be EA1818, barrel has a stamp PEA1818 and the bolt should have a marking LEA1818.
Some Tikka and Sako barrels have twist markings on them, like 223's are often marked 8" and 300 win mag barrels as 10" or 11", as they have been available with different twist rates. Most new 308 barrels have had a marking of 11" on them.

I think the letters come from finnish words for barrel (Piippu in finnish) and the bolt is called Lukko in finnish, hence the markings on those parts. In finnish gun laws every gun part that is under pressure, or those that keep the gun closed during firing must be serialized and pressure tested as per CIP standards. Parts tested in finnish testing facilities will have a lions head stamp as an official CIP standard approval, making those parts and assemblies legal for sale. For example all new barrels made for existing actions must be CIP approved, caliber marked and serialized for them to be legal to posess or sell here.

Fun fact for non finnish speakers is that the finnish word "lukko" for a rifles bolt translates directly to "lock" in english.

As in "Lock, Stock and Barrel"?
I'm not 100% sure if I get what you mean, but a quick finnish-english summary on rifle parts would be
Piippu - Barrel
Lukko - Bolt assembly, inncluding firing pin, extractor etc.
Tukki - Stock
Lukkokehys or lukkorunko - Action / receiver, just the body that houses the bolt.
Laukaisukoneisto - Trigger assembly

There are some minor nuances to these terms, but thats basically the baseline of it. Some terms sort of flow over from english terms, especially when there is no really accurate or well describing translation on them.

I'm terribly sorry about the offtopic by the way, I didn't mean to derail this thread.

Back on track; It's nice to see they are taking up on more modern twist rates even on older calibers. I wouldn't mind at all if the twist rates were marked on all barrels to avoid confusion.

So I wonder is it is NOT marked that means it’s a 8”?

Why would some be marked and others not?

I don't know? I handled a blued compact at a Scheels that wasn't marked. I asked a staff member if they could find the box or figure out the twist. They were pretty busy and I didn't want to wait around so I never found out. I did buy a tikka factory take off from ebay that's supposed to be 8 twist. I'll find out tonight for sure. It's blued but was too cheap to pass up.

I ordered a stainless takeoff 243 barrel today that is supposed to be 8 twist. I’ll see if it’s stamped on the barrel when it gets here.

Edit*. Guess I jumped the gun, turns out I don’t have one coming yet.

***ABOVE MODEL IS A 1/10 TWIST***
***MY APOLOGIES***

I took a picture of the model # of another Tikka Roughtech Ember at the same shop dads came from this morning. It said 1/10 on the barrel. He wanted me to help check his again and we came up with 1/10. He’s wasn’t quite sure what he may have been looking at, but measuring it again with a cleaning rod it was in fact a 1/10 twist.

**I hope this hasn’t caused issues for anyone. Once again, MY APOLOGIES.**

Dads is on the left, the one from the shop is on the right. One marked and one not.

Ebay barrel was not 8 twist, sent it back. JA Outdoors had an 8 twist stainless 243 barrel so I ordered it and then they promptly emailed stating that it wasn't 8 twist and apologized. It's been an emotional roller coaster.

An 8 twist 243 would be a riot. Is tikka actually chambering them or is this internet folklore??
