It’s not sore or out of place just tight making descents slower and me less agile. Doesn’t matter if it’s a ten or thirty pound pack. I’m thinking about stretching but maybe it’s weak muscles?

Let me guess you're in your 50s or approaching 50. I had the same issue. Daily stretching definitely helped me out. Especially doing relaxed deep squats and holding them for at least a minute. Give it a try helped this 50 something year old guy out. Good luck.

Guess I wouldn't do it everyday, but 2 Aleve to start the day sure helps me when I'm packing weight. I'd definitely go the route of stretches first to see if that solves your problem first.

My lower back gets tight like that when my hips get tight from not stretching (external rotation). Also helps a lot to do some squats or side steps with a band strengthening those muscles around your hips.

I’m in no way an expert but I deal with the same problem every now and again.

My wife is a physical therapist. I’ve been fairly active my whole life (workout, play sports). Anyway, I remember the first time I told her about my lower back hurting and she told me it was my hamstrings, I kinda laughed at her. She was right. So my experience was strengthening and stretching the hamstrings. Hope you get yours resolved. Sore lower back is not fun.

It’s hard to know how to help without knowing your regular exercise routines, but if you’re thinking it might be weak muscles then it’s definitely worth trying adding in a regular strength training routine! If it’s for descending, I would try strengthening core muscles first

Arthritis, core muscles, muscle imbalance, lower muscles, sore hip/knee/ankle causing a funny walk, beer belly, kidney troubles, Amazon rain forest parasites, old age. Just don’t google it or WebMD will say you have cancer and to rush to the emergency room.
