Not a member and never have been. That said, when the opinoion is penned by a guy that got a vasectomy to help prevent climate change.........................................................

Hahahahahahahahahaha. I had to fact-check that one and it came back as legit! That’s all that needs to be said about this Instagram virtue-signaling clown.

Although he makes some valid points in the article, it reeks of far-left smear. This dude is trying to split gun owners. The NRA is ****** up, but they are also villainized unjustly after every mass shooting.

I begrudgingly send money to the NRA because there is no other better choice yet to protect mine and my children’s 2A rights, and also (maybe just as importantly for when I write the check) because I need it for range membership. I give the minimum.

I hate LaPierre, and I can’t stand that they pay telemarketers to annoy us incessantly and try to fear-monger. They already have full-time lawyers and don’t need more money. They can count me as a member though because politicians pay attention to their membership numbers. They are career D.C. elites for sure and I hate that. I pay them just like I formerly paid my crooked union so I could have my old job.

IMO - we would not have gun rights without the NRA. There is no other option. Why do you think the media has been targeting them for so long... (I never heard of GOA until a post on another forum yesterday.)

Anyway - anyone who votes against the NRA votes against gun rights. IMO, it really is as simple as that.

I think it's hard to prove a negative (a piece of legislation wan't passed because of the NRA), or that a politician was or wasn't elected because of the NRA's efforts, but I tend to believe that the NRA has been successful based on the vitriol aimed at them by the MSM and the politicians opposed by the NRA. I know, for example, that if the NRA would take a position on one of the two Republicans running for Senate in Georgia, it would probably be determinative for me.

The NRA doesn't act like a gun rights organization, I agree with many of the points made, but it just brings up the bigger issues with the elective despotism that is our current government. The lobbying and money spent to push a political agenda, it's not a government of the people and for the people anymore, it's many groups of people more rich and elite than you and I, using politics and legislation to bend everyone else to their will.
But beyond that, the NRA has a track record of stepping aside when major gun legislation is taking place, look at the bump stock ban for example. Furthermore they have never been a champion of 2a rights, which is what is most attacked today by activitists. For being the largest gun rights group, the NRA has never done anything to normalize things like an AR15 or body armor which we all have a right to own if you feel necessary.
If you really care about gun rights there are groups out there that actually get things done, personally I think that Firearms Policy Coalition is the best. They are constantly filling lawsuits and supporting our constitution against enemies of it.

I have attached a 2016 article from CBS News detailing over 100 pieces of gun control legislation that Democrats tried to introduce into Congress between 2011 and 2016.

how-many-gun-control-proposals-have-been-offered-since-2011

The primary reason the proposals were not successful? I quote directly from the article:

"The National Rifle Association's (NRA) stranglehold over Congress is largely responsible for the inaction. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the NRA spent more than $3 million on federal lobbying efforts in 2013 and 2014. In the 2016 elections, the powerful gun group has some $14 million to spend in the 2016 elections, and NRA Executive Director Chris Cox vowed to target members perceived to be interfering in the rights of Americans to bear arms."

I do not like talking about politics on hunting forums but our ability to hunt is unfortunately tied to it.

The NRA is an imperfect organization. But it is the primary organization that is fighting to keep our right to buy and own firearms. There is a reason that liberals hate it and want to get rid of it. Donations are the lifeblood of any political organization. Do I like giving money or getting phone calls? No. Can they spend our money more effectively? Absolutely. Will you keep your gun rights with out it? No. That is a fact. That is why I am an NRA member.

It is easy to find a reason not to be an NRA member. The liberal media works hard to provide you with that information, true or not. They want you to hate LaPierre. They are trying very hard to weaken the NRA. It is a very effective political organization. Don't loose sight of the bigger picture or be a pawn.

If you think the Constitution is somehow a guarantee...it isn't. It is subject to interpretation and we are one election and some Supreme Court appointments away from loosing some important rights. When Democrats say the Constitution is a living, breathing document, that is a dog whistle for it can be changed. If we get rid of the Electoral College, the Democrats will not be able to loose a national election and a few large states will drive our national policies, even more than they do now. If you don't think Democrats are trying to get rid of your gun and hunting rights, you are naive, IMO. It is an inconvenient truth.

I hate to be selfish but public lands don't do me any good if I can't hunt them. I am not going to drive 12 hours to hug a tree. I get it. I don't like everything Republicans or the NRA do either but I like Democrats, Antifa and Socialism less.

If I have to pick a dog in the hunt, the 2nd Amendment wins for me every single time. I want to keep my guns. Without it, other rights we take for granted will be at risk or easily taken away. Once they are gone we aren't getting them back.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The NRA is not perfect, just as any org this size isn't, but if you enjoy owning guns then the NRA has helped you keep that right even if you don't like them. As for all the complaints of telemarketing calls for donations, I made it clear I didn't want to be called five years ago and have maybe received 3-4 calls since then. For me it is only about priorities...I want to keep my guns, therefore I will support the org that gives me the best chance to keep them. Any issues within the NRA will eventually get sorted out.

I've been a member off and on over the years and recently let it lapse. I really appreciate what the organization does and their mission, but the non stop mail and marketing was annoying. I couldn't help but think my money was fueling their direct mail campaigns rather than going toward upholding 2A.

Long time life member, while NRA does do some good too much is being paid to making the top executives millionaires. LaPierre does not need 2+ million/ year in perks and salary, nor do the rest of the top need 1.5 million/year either. The last call I got asking for money was 2 yrs ago and I told the caller exactly that and that I would not be sending any money until internal salaries were reduced and money put to NRA programs and members benefit. As for Outdoor Magazine, sorry, I’m too old and set in my ways for “man-buns.

For those of us in CA... NRA has been a completely ineffective entity. At least... for the 50+ years I've been alive. That I'm aware of... they haven't been able to stop a single solitary thing from getting passed here.

Decades ago the NRA viewed Ca as a lost cause and literally gave up on Ca. However, I do believe about 5-10 years ago they changed their stance on Ca (I have not followed); in my opinion due to the money they get from Californians and Californians being upset about the NRA abandoning Ca.

Decades ago I was a member (for years), prior to the internet. I had a potential issue and I wanted to be ahead of it. So I pulled out my NRA file and tried to contact them. Every single number I had was not good any longer. I simply had no way to contact them, yet new members did. It was at that point I discontinued my membership. I have not been a member since..

The NRA has done plenty for gun rights, I give them that. But they have also had significant issues for decades. They need to clean house and replace with leadership that is actually transparent with honest wages and perks similar to it's general membership before getting my money again.

Although I do not support the NRAs blind support of conservative candidates they do a lot of good protecting our second amendment rights. What is happening now is that they are using the same click bait, twitter beef antics that has become the norm in the political space.

If you cannot stomach the NRA I would suggest supporting the NSSF which is more like what the NRA used to be.

The California courts are the problem, not the NRA. CCW, magazines, the handgun roster, etc, were all wins until they either went En Banc and lost or the AG filed an injunction. Until the courts, specifically the 9th, are stacked in our favor there isn't much that can be done.

I honestly don't believe the NRA did anything to protect our 2A rights the entire time I was a member.
