What are your thoughts on the Outdoor Research Bivies? I have the Alpine and have only used it one time. I have no thoughts on if it was good or not. Just wanted to see if I needed to upgrade at a certain point. Thanks.

Ive used the alpine bivy for a number of years, I don't see why you would need an upgrade (depending on your usage). I think the bivy is nice and I rarely have moisture build.

I just wish I could find a cheaper one with a side zip so it would be easier for my old butt to get in and out of it!

I have the alpine bivy and like it, but as was mentioned, getting in and out kind of sucked. I picked up a Bugaboo II bivy and like it much better. Center zip design makes it easier to get in and out. The bugaboo also is made of eVent and seemed to breath better than the OR.

I also have an alpine bivy and like it well enough when used on its own; however, I am looking to get a lighter, more breathable bivy to use in conjunction with my tarp or inside my tipi to keep everything in my sleep system contained/protected. It is definitely not the easiest to get in and out of either.

Thanks for the info. I had heard about the OR not breathing that well. I thought about adding a zipper to the foot or some one way vents. I do not use it that much so looks like it should work fine.
