Things you have noticed in the gym

I was just on a trip where I stayed at a nice resort with a great gym. I was in there doing some kettlebell stuff one evening and during the hour I was there, three groups came and went.

1. A couple, the guy basically did half pull-ups and some curls they were way too heavy for him, took his hair hole body moving to get the weight 70% of the way. Then he jumped on a rowing machine for about 5 minutes looking like he was getting electrocuted or something. The lady with him spent about 20 minutes doing some weird hip stretch against a wall, then she deadlifted some 5lb dumbbells before they left.

2. Some guy came in, did a set of leg presses then spent about 5 minutes on a stair machine. When his buddy showed up he said he’d been there doing legs for over an hour and they left to feet beers at the resort bar.

3. Some British girl there with a guy, she commented on everything, she wouldn’t shut up and work out, she kept sort of trying to train the guy but she didn’t know what she was doing she was telling him to do 3 minutes of elliptical, then tricep extensions before doing 3 minutes on a treadmill then using some other machine. She was loud and annoying.

Tell me about it... my wife competes and a lot of her girlfriends do too. She wanted a pump cover this past spring. $200 later.... but she loves it. And she looks great when it comes off.

kinda like me. Start the morning with layers on and then hike a few inclines and I'm down to my skibbies

Please, no.

"Pump cover" is becoming more and more popular lately. I never saw the point of wearing a sweat suit for 11 minutes, just to take it off and then have to carry it around in a bag the rest of your workout.
A pump cover??? Like a basic hoody?

Ok, this thread just confirms for me why I never go to the gym. I've tried it in the past, probably been 10 times in my whole life and it just isn't for me. I guess I'm just not a social exerciser. After about 5 years of doing just body weight exercises at home, I finally decided I was "into it" enough to invest in some equipment, so I bought a functional trainer from Costco and a Concept2 rowing machine. Next to my guns, those are 2 of the best investments I made. I've been using them ever since. The functional trainer lets me do just about any exercise you can do with weights, but without the fear of dropping one on my head. I'd say the only limitation of the trainer is the weight stack capacity. It may not be enough for you younger/fitter folks, but for a retired guy like myself, it's perfect. And the rower is a nice low impact aerobic workout that seems to hit more muscles than any of the other aerobic equipment I was considering.
