It’s more urban legend than common occurrence, but it’s scared enough people. Leaving gates open, trash, and general disrespect are much more common..

They were transplanted to the Kirkland, AZ area in the 70’s or 80’s I’ll ask my gramps he watched them do it, said the only benefit about them is the mt lions seem to pick them off and leave calves alone

Cool! I did find an article referencing the Prescott area referring to AZGFD moving pigs to new areas but no specifics on actually moving them there. They did a lot of stuff that wasn’t ever publicly documented.

“This boom was aided by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, which transplanted javelinas to some new areas of the state up until the late 1970s in an effort to supply more game animals. But most authorities say the creatures have moved north primarily on their own, and in the process, they have caused trouble for many Arizonans.”

Yeah the family homestead that area in the 1870’s and didn’t have pigs till they dropped them, I’m not complaining they are cool little critters and they are thick on the ranch, my only complaint is that you get 1 tag a year for them
