Biggest problem is when you give only one person permission and he brings 5 more men to hunt your land. That's the last time I punched someone in the mouth, but I'd do it again.

It’s more urban legend than common occurrence, but it’s scared enough people. Leaving gates open, trash, and general disrespect are much more common..

Yeah the family homestead that area in the 1870’s and didn’t have pigs till they dropped them, I’m not complaining they are cool little critters and they are thick on the ranch, my only complaint is that you get 1 tag a year for them

Also - all of these problems could easily be solved by simply auctioning off every acre of USFS/BLM land.

Who among us, wouldn't like to be one of the evil billionaires. I know I would. If I were I wouldn't open up all my land to any Tom , Dick, or Harry. I would allow friends and family to do pretty much what ever they wanted. Truthfully, would any body on this forum, if they hit the biggest lottery ever, or somehow became unbelievably rich, willingly allow the public to use your land or cross your land, to get to landlocked public land. If you would how many times would you hire staff to pick up the trash, fill in ruts, put out fires, or mitigate the damage some of the public would do to your land before you put a stop to it if you could.
I own a small bit of land in W. KY., I don't knowingly let anybody recreate on my place without permission. I have the land posted, yet I occasionally have hunters come in from another property claiming they didn't see the signs, I have had ATV riders drive right past signs and destroy food plots, tear up fences, ride up and down the perineal stream.
Some of the pubic cares little about any one or thing but themselves. Just look at some of the popular camping spots on NF or any other public land. Rant over, carry on.

Just tidbit of some ranching history: Without the help of some ranchers and cowboys from back in the day we probably wouldn't have the elk that we have in Arizona and New Mexico that we hunt today. If you didn't know the original Merriam's Elk were extirpated in AZ and NM in the late 1800's. A bunch of people got together to bring elk out of Montana back to AZ and NM in the early 1900's. 1913 was the first shipment to Winslow and they were released down towards the southern end of Chevelon Plateau on a ranch on leased land (if you'd like the exact coordinates I have them). Sometimes ranchers can do good things

It is a valid argument, but don't kid your self. You are getting an economic benefit off of Public land. You value the time you spend there, The elk and deer you take home have value. When the anti hunters bring up in the future that hunters are using the public at far below market rate, hunters need more than just the I don't use public for commercial use argument. The antis are going gloss right over this argument and frame it as hunters are killing their animals for the sole benefit of the hunter at far below the market rate. This is coming in the future, I am kind of surprised the antis are not pushing this now.

The western hunting atmosphere is changing fast. It’s not going to affect me , but it will affect my children and grandchildren. Anyone who thinks these greedy, dishonest land owners who control 500,000 acres of land but only 15 % of their ranch or 75,000 acres are deeded owned land , aren’t corrupt needs a class in ethics.

The USA is becoming more like Europe every day , where if the USA continues its course only a very low % of the population will be allowed to hunt. These vast privately controlled estates/ranches are becoming much like Europe, where they control and in many cases monetize the wildlife.

States like CO, OR, WA are already defunding and radically changing the wildlife departments with their WOKE ANTI HUNTING Democrat run governments. In time they will shutdown much of their state controlled lands and if the Liberal Democrats control the Federal government these woke anti hunting state governments will eventually shutdown much or all of the federal lands within these liberal woke states too.

These large land holders who enjoy hunting have known this for years. You don’t think controlling these vast amounts of our public lands has more to do than grazing leases for these so called ranchers land holders?

Like I say it doesn’t affect me. I semi retired early and have been fortunate to pretty much hunt wherever I want. Many of my more memorable hunts have been diy on public lands or horseback/mule hunts in some of the wilderness areas in the Rocky Mountain west. I would be sad to see this go away.

You younger guys need to put up a fight. Some of these ranchers who control vast areas of our public lands and have lucrative subsidies leases within their ranchers are good guys. However , I do not know what the % number is but I bet its close to 90% of these so called ranchers (big business people) land holders of some of these 200,000+++ acre public land leases of ours are dishonest crooks and are as corrupt as the politicians supporting them.

No one should be allowed to control and landlock 100,000’s of acres of our public lands and only own 10-15,000 acres of titled land . That’s really f***** up

Interesting that even advocates of subsidized public land grazing cling to the few arguments they have. I can assure you - not a lot of the nations cattle spend anytime on public land - and anyone saying double digits should try and prove it with real numbers.

Subsidies are the death of efficiency and the birth of dependence. Certainly on display here.
