The Teratorn: A Shoot2Hunt X EXO Bag Collab

Mine just showed up, super excited to get it out but I've got another month of salmon guiding before I'll have enough time to do much more than some short hikes. Initial impression is great. A heads up for anyone ordering from Canada your going to get unwanted penetration when it crosses the border, which being made in USA I was expecting but $240 of taxes, brokerage and tariffs on a $600 bag is pretty big kick in the shorts. Going to need to switch from Charters to hooking to support my gear habit at this rate. Saying that for anyone on the fence Id order it again, great mix of exo quality and thoughtful design with room for the bulky and often wet stuff needed for Canadian and Alaskan climates.

For those that have used the pack with the wings tucked away (think day hunts), how does that change where you strategically put your gear to still gain the benefit of efficiently getting to your gear?

Also any pictures of the pack in day hunt mode would be appreciated

Put the teratorn to use doing some positional shooting in the hills today. Tried it with the wings tucked behind the frame for the first time and was pleasantly surprised how smooth that worked. In this configuration I still like it substantially better than my 5000 bag, mostly because the layout is far more functional and no need to release straps to get at most things.

I recently returned to the 5000 bag in an attempt to be more streamlined on a 3 day backpacking/fishing trip and every time I packed it up I was cursing the vertical side pockets and wishing I had just used the teratorn and cinched it down. The 5000 is a good bag, but functionally it performs like a much smaller bag when loaded full because the side pockets intrude so much on the main bag.

With the wings tucked away, for a day hunt, do you see yourself needing to use the main compartment at all?

I think it would depend a bit on season and type of hunting, but I think it’s certainly possible, especially in warmer weather. For example, if you didn’t need many clothing layers, I think you could easily carry 15x binos in the lid, then a rain jacket, warmer layer, hat/gloves and lunch food in the sleeping bag compartment, then use the hip pouches for snacks/accessories. Rifle on one side, tripod on the other. Hiking poles in the dedicated loops. Molinator just as I have it. Sit pad between the pack and frame.

I think that would work just fine the more I think about it, then when it gets cold, bring out the wings for the warmer puffy layers.
