The Rokslide Stock Traders Thread

The speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Qalibaf, said Friday that Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz again amid the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports, contradicting President Trump, who said the strait was “open for business” earlier in the day.
What a true hawt mess this has become.

I voted for DJT the last 3 presidential elections, and my support for him is still there, but he sure has got us between a rock and hard place that COULD cause all sorts of problems for months, and maybe years, to come.

And most importantly, American lives lost in DJT's hawt mess.

A way to play the SpaceX IPO?

Yahoo finance: A routine regulatory filing in Alaska has pulled back the curtain on one of Alphabet Inc‘s most valuable hidden assets: a stake in SpaceX that could soon be worth roughly $122 billion.

My only problem with that is 10 years ago, I thought J.C. Penny, Sears, Peabody Energy, Chesapeake Energy, Go Pro, Fitbit, Groupon, Seadrill, Transocean, Nikola, Blackberry, Ford, Radio Shack, were my 10 year outlook stocks. How was I to know that my forte should have been being a short seller, but I never realized it. I admit I listened too much to those guys in the $2000 Italian suits. How could they ever be wrong.

Invest for 10year horizons and not today/tomo

You’ll come out better and not have to worry about day to day drama and media fear mongering to move the markets for high speed AI trading platforms

Targeting 2-3 year holds or longer have been my best trades. I concentrated my portfolio to a handful of stocks this past year with that strategy in mind.

I am really surprised the market isn't reacting to the news in the strait. Not that i want it to tank, i just didn't expect it to hold where it is.

Thoughts on META? I'm up 10ish%, overall it's been pretty stagnant. With a looming 8k person layoff, how will this affect the stock?
I really like META and don't think FB is going away. I bought in last week at $668. Sometimes investors react positively to layoffs for the savings in salaries and implication of AI/continuous improvement.

It's wild. The economy just keeps bouncing back like there is no gravity. We haven't had a real recession in more than 15 years. I keep thinking the other shoe is going to drop sometime but nope.

Yeah, I was anticipating the markets completely tanking this morning. On the other hand, the ceasefire was set to end on Wednesday anyway, the threats of destruction are perhaps a bit trite at this point, and the strait hasn't been functionally open for ~6 weeks now. Perhaps there isn't much unexpected to react to, though the looming energy crisis in Europe may drop like a hammer if something doesn't shift in the next ~4 weeks.

I can explain some of the problem there

Oil stocks! Historically have always been boom and bust. Too erratic to be long term investments, especially the debt heavy ones

Also over time almost nobody will beat SP 500 or Nasdaq type funds. ESPECIALLY when you consider the taxes you have to pay trading vs holding over long periods of time.

Relax, stick with the biggest baddest companies in the world and you’ll at worst case be decent. If the biggest, richest, money printing companies can’t figure it out, have faith we just about can’t either.
